School is eating my brains.
I am taking 14 credit hours this semester, 11 of them in music. That means practice, practice, practice. At least I don't have to practice theory, though the lab is kicking my butt already.
Lessee... This is for posterity so please, be honest...
Music Theory II - No practice, but homework... at least occasionally. Awesome professor. I read the chapter and it's Greek. Hoyt explains and it all makes sense! Yay Hoyt!
Class Piano II - Between half an hour and an hour practice daily. Still can't play hands together for poo.
Voice Performance - I don't have to perform this semester, though I can choose to. I do get to watch people I care about sing beautiful music twice a week!
Music Technology for Educators - No practice, but I get to begin my online teaching portfolio! And learn to use cool music software! And my prof does things like attribute the sample grading program to "Jean-Luc Picard!"
American Lit, Civil War to the Present - My one non-music course. Great professor and good class... Yesterday the professor apologized for the amount of reading we're doing. Mrf? It's a 2000 level lit class! Of *course* ther's a lot of reading! Prolly half an hour to an hour a day. Get to write a 7 page paper on any author from the period whether we read them in class or not. The world is my freaking oyster!! :-)
Theory Lab - Minimum practice time15 minutes a day (each) on sight reading, rhythm, keyboarding (yes...different than piano), and ear training. Ear training sucks!
Private Voice - Half an hour a day, minimum. Plus some written assignments and a rehearsal journal. Awesome voice coach! For those of you who know/care... he is a friend of Voice Master Robbie G!
Women's Choir - Half an hour a day practicing. But MB picks the most awesome music so that makes it easy! ;-)
Diction for Singers - Minimal homework and I get to spend 110 minutes a week with Dr. Nam... Can't beat that.
So there it is... My insanity... ;-) Somewhere in there I get half an hour with a professional accompanist who works for the department. Which is a bit of a coup. This semester there are more music students than the accompanists can accomodate, so about 1/4 of us have to work with peers in the piano department. I did this last semester with one fantastic accompanist and one who, well, wasn't.
I am also working on-campus for the tutoring center. I am Peer Advocate for a cohort of 20 people with an awesome Supplemental Instructor through the "Freshman Achievement Program." The idea here is to help traditional students successfully make the transition from High School to College. So far only one student has consistently taken advantage of peer study time. Hopefully as things get really swinging after the DNC, that will change. I also have one private tutoring student who I meet with for the first time tomorrow.
AND we just started rehearsals for Blithe Spirit for Gaslight Theatre Company. We will be running Fridays and Saturdays in October. Come see! Come see!
Oh, AND... DWC starts rehearsing in a couple of weeks.
I wonder if anyone will remember what I look like come December? ;-)
