One of the statements on the meme brought back some memories for me.
When I was in my mid-teens, my best friend and I thought that the best possible thing to do on the weekends was to go to the Natural History Museum (now known as Denver Museum of Nature and Science). We had a pattern we'd walk through the exhibits, and spent hours just roaming and talking. I can't remember (maybe because in the intervening years they've expanded so much) just where we walked. I don't remember there being any special travelling exhibits, with the exception of King Tut in the early 80s. The elevator back then was a piece of complete crap and we used to joke about our stomachs being left between the third and fourth floors. To pass the time while we were waiting to be picked up by one or the other of our mothers (my mother wouldn't allow me to ride public transportation as a kid) we'd climb the trees and, weather permitting, play in the fountain.
Neither of our families had a membership, but I don't remember paying to get in. Does anyone remember if the museum was free back in those days or if maybe Saturdays were?
