Now Entering the Wasteland of No Wireless

I apparently survived the trip to Eugene. Actually, I enjoyed the drive for the most part, since I completed it over 2 days, so didn't drive more than 6 hours either day. Also, most drivers gave me lots of space because they suspected I was incompetent (and little did they know how very right they were...) So I got to Mt. Shasta in the early ( Read more... )

I'm glad that the drive was pretty uneventful. That story with the girl in the blue car is so typical, yet it's so dangerous. She had to have been following you, knowing you were passing the truck, so why would she go into the right lane? Not thinking...

Is that typical? Eek! It's good I don't drive more. How does anybody live to be 30?

I suppose the assumption is that for every dumb driver on their cellphone who isn't paying attention there is an equal number of people who are paying special attention. As a new driver, I think you fall into the latter category.

More evidence that cellphones should be illegal while driving. It works in NY. It can work in California.

Actually, the drivers on the CA side of the trip (where cell phones are illegal while driving) were pretty good. It was only in OR that I noticed any significant number of drivers using cell phones. Maybe CA drivers are actually starting to pay attention to the ban? (Except for once_a_banana, apparently!)

Meanwhile, last night, I was driving while talking on my phone with Paul about calamari, and since I needed one hand for the phone and the other for the steering wheel but still wanted to do a Y-turn to turn around and pursue eating of said calamari, I had my friend shift us into reverse and back into drive for me :D
It didn't work as well as I had hoped (I think his gearshift-fu is weak...)
