stop hating on the Red Baron, please

Another thing we've noticed recently is a bizarre removal of The Red Baron from various places we've noticed him or his plane hanging around.

In our pediatrician's waiting room, they've decorated with kites. When we first started going there, one of the things we really loved was the kite version of the Red Baron's Fokker DR1 Triplane. There was also a kite pirate ship, and several other interesting kite designs to look at.

When we went in for Otto's 2 year check up, we noticed that the plane was gone from the waiting room (all the other kites are still up, though). Sean went over to the receptionist and asked what had happened to it, and was told they'd removed it because they had a complaint from a parent because of the Nazi association.

SAY WHAT?

That's right, they removed a kite version of a WWI plane because of some dipshit's complaint that it was somehow associated with Nazis.

Meanwhile, the pirate ship is still up. Which doesn't bother me in the least (I am not the sort of parent who only supports peaceful play), but for consistency's sake, shouldn't they take that down? I mean, which is worse, being a WWI flying ace, or being a pirate? For that matter, which is worse, being a Nazi (and I don't mean Hitler or Goebbels, just a soldier or party member) or being a pirate? Pirates are really bad, yet all sorts of parents encourage their kids to play games in which they are pirates (or ninjas!), but don't want them playing army.

Anyhow, when we were down at the Oakland Zoo, Sean pointed out that the Iron Crosses on the sides of the red planes on the little fly-around-in-circles ride had been painted out. I'm going to have to assume it was some similar idiocy going on with that decision as well.

Ok, please stop now, thanks.

stupid people, the red baron, wtf?
