So, the drive down was pretty nice. Except for the boring stretch between Redding and Vacaville where there's just a whole lot of valley. Otto did really well in the car, and we made pretty good time, 8.5 hours from our house in Eugene to my mom's house in Berkeley.
After we got here, we had about an hour to chill and then all sorts of family showed up. We had dinner with my mom, my grandparents, my aunt & uncle and Sean's mom. Otto was very chipper for about the first hour, and then it all fell apart: the long drive plus the new place and all the people made for a super fussed-out baby. We spent a good hour trying to calm him down, and it wasn't until everyone left and the house quieted down that we finally got him calm. Not too bad; I can't say I would have done any better under those circumstances.
Yesterday we had a nice relaxed morning, and then we went to Crab Cove for the picnic, which was tons of fun! Lots of friends and even some other babies, good food, beer and fairly nice weather (it was pretty cold in the shade). At one point Otto and I walked over to the visitor center and they had stuffed sea creatures for super-cheap, so he got a souvenir of his first trip to the San Francisco Bay:
Those tentacles are perfect for chewing on, apparently.
Now we're off to take a walk and later we're going to my dad's house for a Labor Day bbq!
