a night to remember

Hearing the official announcement that Barack Obama would be our next president:

Looking at the faces of the people gathered in Grant Park, after they heard the news:

The joy has dimmed somewhat today, due to (a) life continuing as usual and (b) the crushing news about the many anti-gay ballot initiatives across the country, notably California's Prop 8. I am trying not to let a (hardly unsurprising) show of bigotry ruin my optimism about the general fate of our nation, and about Americans as a people. We'll get there eventually. And it will be easier with leaders like Barack Obama at the helm. I am disappointed, but not hopeless. Even in the face of defeat, even against overwhelming odds, never give up. Yes, we can.

(edit: this Obama picspam is lifting my spirits LIEK WHOA. omg, check out our awesome Prez and his awesome family! I need to go make a billion icons now.)
