Well, that's just picky, Ray.

First, a shameless self-pimp: I'm in charge of Fridays (Character Day) this month over at ds_recs, and I've been posting about various female characters in due South. So far I've recced Elaine Besbriss, Meg Thatcher, and Maggie MacKenzie (with a small mention of Francesca Vecchio). Quotes, screencaps, analysis, "why this chick kicks ass", and just general character squee. You know, if you're into that sort of thing. ds_recs is a fantastic community and I highly recommend it to all dS fans. (Very spoilery, though: newbies beware.)

And secondly, a mini-rant/lecture:

( This is a fake cut. )

This is NOT a fake cut. It's called a hyperlink, or "link" for short. If you make a post saying Click this fake cut!, I will laugh at you.

Also? Fake cuts are highly overrated. You don't need to include them in your posts. No, really. I decide whether to click through to your journal by looking at your icon samples/fic summary/whatever and asking myself if I'd like to see more. I'm not going to be influenced one way or the other by your mad fake-cutting skillz. (And in fact, if you screw it up, as shown above? I probably won't click, just out of spite.)

In conclusion, if you're posting to one journal (say, a community) and you want your readers to view something on a different journal? You can just, you know. Link. The normal way.

(This rant brought to you by many long hours of surfing through icon communities trying to fill my 13 new userpic slots.)

In a related question: can any Stargate Atlantis or Doctor Who fans on my flist point me towards people who make pretty icons in these fandoms? (Yes, I've now seen SGA. All two seasons. Try not to faint.)

tv: stargate atlantis, tv: due south, rants
