It actually snowed here last night, which is a rarity, and this morning there was lots of ice everywhere. So of course the first thing I did this morning was to step out the door and promptly slip and fall on a patch of ice, landing squarely on my ass on the wooden walkway and thwacking my shoulderblade and the back of my head HARD on the stair railing. Lovely way to start the day.
I was grumpy and bitchy for about an hour after I got to work, because my back was sore and my head was sore and I couldn't think straight and I just wanted to go home and curl up in bed and I hated the world. Then during one of my repeated attempts to work out the kinks in my shoulder, I said to myself "Hey, Self! This is JUST LIKE that episode of due South where the Mountie injures his back, and holds hands with RayK, and Welsh tries to fix him by making him do yoga, and eventually he gets a neck massage from Lilah Morgan who is wearing his underwear at the time, and he groans and moans a lot and it's really fucking sexy. You like that scene. So quit whining."
Then my head throbbed and I said "OMG! And this is JUST LIKE that other episode of due South where the Mountie is in a plane crash in the woods and he hits his head and is delirious and blind, and he and RayV have to find and capture the escaped prisoner whilst singing the wrong words to 'California Dreamin'. And did Fraser complain about the head trauma? No. He walked into trees and fell on the fire and called Ray 'Steve', but he didn't bitch. You should be more like the Mountie." And lo, I was inspired.
So I have spent the entire workday pretending that I am Benton Fraser of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and I have jumped out of a window and landed on my back / been in a plane crash and sustained a head injury. And I have a duty to fulfill, so I must bravely ignore the pain because I have to go get my man and bring him back alive! Except that by "man", I mean "Java code". And by "bring back alive", I mean "debug". But it's still Very Important Work that will Save Lives and Uphold Justice. No, really. I am debugging in the name of Canada. God Save the Queen!
