1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?

I went to Europe! I lived (am living) in an apartment that is neither with family nor through school! I stayed in hostels and hotels by myself!

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Sort of. I want to continue reading the Bible every day. And I want to try to read something that isn't Facebook/email/pleasure reading every day. I want to read more poems and essays and such. And finally, I want to go back to being more positive.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

No babies.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

No.

5. What countries did you visit?

England, Ireland, Spain, France

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?

I would like to have a better idea of what I want to do in my impeding future, and I would like to have a less frustrating home situation.

7. What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

September 15, when I flew to England. It was the first time I'd be going to Europe, the first time I'd be on a plane for more than 6 hours, the first time I'd be staying somewhere without anyone I knew for that long...

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Conquering fears, conquering England, feeling braver, more confident, more motivated academically and artistically.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Trying to get home from London! Just kidding. :)
My biggest failure... I don't want to look at anything I did as a failure. Of course everyone has those things they wish they could change. And maybe I should have spent more time looking into life after college. But I refuse to continue beating myself up over something that's already happened.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

I was sick for 3 weeks, and I coughed so much that I threw out my back. My ribs are still bruised...

11. What was the best thing you bought?

I would say a plane ticket to England and back, but my grandparents paid for that.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?

Matt's and my mom's. My mom is always this amazing presence in my life, doing things for me, sacrificing things for me, spending hours and dollars on my life even when I don't ask, and more than willingly when I do. And Matt just loves me. He makes me feel happy or smart or pretty or not too crazy, or whatever I need. And he makes me want to be this terrific person, and he also makes me feel like I already am.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?

People became friends, then became mean. It's over now, but it hurt SO MUCH at the time. They were all I had. They were rocks. They were a constant blessing. And then they made me feel left out and stupid and spoiled and terrible, just for how my life was.

14. Where did most of your money go?

EUROPE!

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Going to England! Studying abroad! Living alone! Seeing (part of) the world!
...and then coming home again. :)

16. What song will always remind you of 2010?

It's a tie between United State of Pop, Waka Waka, If It's Love, Little Lion Man, and Under Pressure. Those are pretty much in order of the parts of the year they correspond with. And it's not really anything beyond the fact that those are the songs I was listening to at the time. The songs I heard as I walked to class, or at Thursday, or driving in my car, or being in my room in England... They remind me of the feeling of the year.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

i. happier or sadder? Happier, absolutely. But still scared and sad sometimes. Isn't everyone?
ii. thinner or fatter? Fatter, if you can call it that. SCONES <3
iii. richer or poorer? Technically? Richer. Speaking in terms of debt? Poorer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Writing or cooking or learning or creating.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

I wish I'd spent less of my life wasting time, and part of that is being on the computer. If you point out any irony in this statement, I will slap you.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?

I spent the morning at my dad's and the rest of the day at my mom's. It was pretty low-key.

21. Did you fall in love in 2010?

No, I was very luckily already there. :)

22. How many one-night stands?

Hahaha. Um no.

23. What was your favourite TV programme?

How I Met Your Mother and Castle are usually tied, but for a short time recently, Castle was winning. Now they're tied again.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

I try to stay away from hate.

25. What was the best book you read?

Does rereading HP7 count? If not, then anything in the Eyre Affair series. And I can't remember if I read Anansi boys in 2009 or 2010 (it was at UCLA), so that's on the list as well. Because it's Neil Gaiman.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?

At this exact moment, Mumford and Sons. I dig this band. And they're from London.

27. What did you want and get?

I wanted to study abroad. I wanted to be braver or more confident or happier or more motivated. I wanted to be more independent. I wanted to be kinder, more patient, more giving. I think I achieved, or made progress towards achieving, these things.

Oh and a new iPod. :P

28. What did you want and not get?

A car that works all the time and doesn't overheat. More financial stability. A predictable flight home from London.

29. What was your favourite film of this year?

My favorite movie that CAME OUT in 2010 was Inception, and Harry Potter is a close runner-up. However, neither is my favorite film that I SAW in 2010.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I turned 22, and I was in England! I hung out with my mom and Keith, I moved into my room at Kent, and I had a drink bought for me at Origins.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Less emotional ow.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?

Layered. More bracelets and dresses than before. Still lots of t-shirts, but not boring. Lots of Converse and other colored shoes.

33. What kept you sane?

Reading, writing, talking, praying. Those are my lifesavers, which automatically adds so many people to the list. After all, who else do I talk to? (I only listen to myself for so long...)

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

NPH! And Liam Neeson. Haha.

35. What political issue stirred you the most?

I wish I could tell you, but I feel so passionately about so many things, because it hurts me to see what the world decides to do sometimes. I don't ever want to align myself with a political party, because both are SO flawed, and while I used to hate when people were ignorant, I now realize why ignorance is bliss. I feel things so deeply sometimes, and if I always kept one eye on CNN, I'd be falling apart.

36. Who did you miss?

EVERYONE. I was in EUROPE for THREE MONTHS.

37. Who was the best new person you met?

It's a tie between Deborah, Catherine, Hannah, and Amber. I met those latter two in winter quarter last year, and the former two in England. And they're all girls??!

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010.

I can.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

Rate yourself and rake yourself,
Take all the courage you have left
Wasted on fixing all the problems
That you made in your own head

-Little Lion Man, Mumford & Sons

40. Did you enjoy this year?

I always do. :)
