had a couple customers yesterday who drank almost our entire bottle of macallan 12. if their $125 bill wasn't nice enough (it was a slow day on the terrace), he also managed to tip me $75. those sort of customers ought to happen more often.
just randomly saw on imdb that kristen chenoweth is attached to a biopic about dusty springfield. which on the surface i like, but kristen and dusty's voices are practically opposite, she would work so much better playing ann margret, that's what always comes to mind when i hear (see) her sing.
actual conversation from the party i was at last night. the speaker was from mississippi, with a thick accent, and was talking about her redneck family and how she *actually has* those stories about redneck family --so here i am waiting for the tales of hunting accidents or crack whore relatives, and she gives: my cousin, years ago, when the tsunami happened, said, "i feel so bad for those people in tsunami!." i mean, i didn't know what a tsunami was either, but i at least knew it was a thing, and i pretended to know what it was until i had a chance to google it.
actual conversation #2: (n.b. it was a wig party so everyone is in a variety of wigs all night long)
"you don't think i look like lady gaga in this wig, do you? don't tell me that. i don't even know if that's a man or a woman. i don't listen to the radio so i don't know that kind of stuff."
"i don't know who that is either, i'm so ancient i don't have time for that kind of thing anymore, and i don't listen to the radio either."
(i say) "i don't listen to the radio either, but the fashion people are all over lady gaga. so how old is ancient?"
"oh, i'm 36. i used to know about all the music and fashion stuff but i'm too old to keep track of that anymore."
i had no idea paying attention to the news (which often includes entertainment news) was only the purview of those young twenty-somethings, and that by the time you reach my superannuated status, it's too late to keep up with the world.
