I decided that since I have logged on I should post an entry. And it will be awesome, exciting, and wondrous.
So, here we go, the word(s) of the day:
Awesome: Inspiring an overwhelming feeling of reverence, admiration, or fear; causing or inducing awe: an awesome sight. Showing or characterized by reverence, admiration, or fear; exhibiting or marked by awe. Slang, very impressive: That new white convertible is totally awesome.
Aaaand since they used 'awe' in the definition of awesome: (noun) An overwhelming feeling of reverence, admiration, fear, etc., produced by that which is grand, sublime, extremely powerful, or the like: in awe of God; in awe of great political figures. Archaic: power to inspire fear or reverence. Obsolete: fear or dread.
(verb, used with object): To inspire with awe. To influence or restrain by awe.
Exciting: Arousing great interest or enthusiasm.
Wondrous: (adjective) wonderful. (Adverb) Wonderfully.
Seriously, what is with these dictionaries using the word 'awe' to describe 'awesome' (thaaaanks, dictionary.com) and 'wonderful' to describe 'wonderous'? That strikes me as foolishness. (OED)
And so, Wonder: the emotion excited by the perception of something unexpected, unfamiliar, or inexplicable, esp. surprise or astonishment mingled with admiration, perplexity, or curiosity.
I could go on...but I won't. Consult your friendly, neighbourhood OED. Specifically, the Canadian OD.
