Hahaha. I love anthropology. I love it so much. Hahahaha. Weeee.
I'm such a freak it makes me warm and fuzzy inside. But seriously. Like. I love it. Oh my god. So much.
So it's great! My anthropology club got officially chartered. I'm superextrapumped like a lot. Also, Nancy-Sheper Hughes is going to Hampshire and I'm going to go! And here here amazingness and bask in the glory that is her genius.
And and and.
My Nationalism and Patriotism project is totally shitty but I talked to Wallace and had an interesting chat about the whole affair. He wants me to put it in modernist terms but he knows how uncomfortable I am with that, so basically he's thinks I'm capable of/is waiting for me to soon reinvent ethnographic theory, which has me super-exicted. He also says I'm going to be the next Geertz, and love tip my darlings, that really is the way to get the girl (the girl being me.) (P.S.: Geertz is to anthropology what Shakespeare is to theater. Except he died a couple weeks ago.) Also he was honored to teach me, but that's a little too much.
Well it was nice, I wasn't prolific as I'd like to be about why I have a hobby of killing Mead dead. But he makes me feel that my utter devotion to my subject isn't worthless, and if I keep working I'll really do good things for it.
So that was nice, and warm, and fuzzy. And though he told me to skip class I was able to have lunch with him and make it to class only 10 minutes late. I rule.
And I had a great discussion with Dr. Garland after class, too, becuase as honestly I have slightly more respect for her then Wallace, and it was lovely. First off I made some comments that jived with her a lot, the postmodern lady that she is (PS I'm TOTALLY ALL OVER postmodernity. I loves it. I loves it so much.) She's such a cutie, she had to interrupt our conversation to talk to her girlfriend (who sounds hot). Garland is pretty much the best lesbian professor ever. Anyway. That's totally beside the point, um, because my point is we had a great talk about postmodern theory. She seemed overly pleased that I was answered these questions and I kept wanting to get her to home to her cute girlfriend but she stayed for a longtime, an hour, to talk to me about how overwhelming it all is. And she...kind of helped. I mean, not really, becuase it's up to me now but still it was comforting that she' grappled with these. But she's more quietly accepting, looking at it from the more mature well I'll deal with it best I can type paradigm. And she offered to talk more about it too.
Aaaaand Dr. Fratkin has me as an Official Departmental Liason, so I get to pick the two new professors for hire! I pretty much want to weasel my way into being super-anthro-protegy darling. Because honestly, without it I'd probably be completely, totally, and utterly miserable.
Today was anthro-filled. Today was a good day. *beams*
