So, remember how my laptop screen was not working? It was almost as if the backlighting had burned out. Today I finally took it to school, output the display to an external monitor, and got all my pictures and files off onto a flash drive. I didn't think there was anything wrong with the hard drive, but I wanted a backup just in case and I wanted to be able to access my files on Mike's laptop until I got a new screen. Everything showed up fine on an extenal monitor and all was peachy keen - then I got it home and poof! My screen is working again. It is the weirdest thing. Anyway, I am enjoying it while it lasts. I updated my anti-virus program and am downloading some new music for running since I haven't done that in three weeks.
This week is the last week at school and my last week at the school! The new operating company is hiring for next year and I didn't even bother to interview because I am so excited for the new school in Sarasota. Right now, I'm focusing on enjoying my friends and students for one more week. I am going to get a signature coffee mug from Starbucks and have all my eighth graders sign it, if they can do it without smudging it up so I can take it home and bake it. Also, I need to finish my co-coach's cheerleading scrapbook before Wednesday. I ordered a cover (I made it with Creative Memories pages I already had) and I hope it'll be here by then. I am taking Wednesday afternoon off for a doctor's appointment, which means I can come home before graduation and get the cover if it comes in the mail Wednesday afternoon. Sadly, I won't have time to get it engraved, but I think she will still love it. Then eighth grade graduation is on Wednesday (a BIG deal as we are a K-8 school) and I am going to cry my eyes out. Just today, I sent one of the girls a bunch of pictures I had of the eighth graders for their slide show and it made me misty eyed. My honors class also made me cry on Thursday by saying they wanted me to come to their high school graduation.
Mike helped me do some packing today. Really, my eighth graders started the job on Friday; they packed up the books (all 350 or so - they counted) and took everything off the walls. The girls also helped me pack all the art supplies and centers materials. Today I did more packing, organizing, and cleaning while Mike loaded my car. I have a LOT of teacher stuff. It's bad. And Sarah and Melanie, the two other girls in my department, are both not teaching next year so I can't give any of it away! At one point, Mike was taking my student's portfolios out of boxes so I could use the boxes to pack, and we found a live snake in one! It was small and brown and ugly. We tried to get him into a jar to show the science teacher, but he would have none of it.... So, Mike put it in the bushes. I am excited to tell Melanie, who has her office in the storage area between my classroom and Sarah's, that I found a snake in her office! She will not be happy.
Lastly, I am registered for Disney's Race for the Taste 10k in October. I am planning on a run two - walk two - run two route. Well, that's what I can do now. If I improve before then, I will run more and walk less. :o) Since we will drive from Sarasota, I also booked a room for Saturday night at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, which was offering a special cheap rate for runners (yes!). After that I can start planning a trip to the Disney Princess 1/2 Marathon in March!
So that is all the news. I am off to download more new music.
