I was going to write an entry yesterday but it's a really good thing I didn't considering I was functioning on three hours of sleep thanks to my almost two-year old son. Besides the obvious issues of a fucked up ideal body image and what it's doing to women's psyche and actresses' job opportunities, it shows a tremendous lack of imagination by the writers to not be able to write women as anything other than sex objects or mother figures.
It's so bad, I even have a hard time watching shows I like, like Heroes and Lost. I'm turned off by lots of shows that may actually be pretty good because I just can't get past the unrealistic portrayal of 90% of the cast being beautiful, young people. It's not just female characters either. There's one show I keep clicking on with detectives that I think are supposed to be seen as seasoned veterans but none of them are older than 25. It might be a perfectly good show but I can't get past the uninteresting actors. They all look alike and seem very artificial and frankly, very boring.
I've recently gotten into Dr. Who and it's such a breath of fresh air to see people that feel real, you know? Rose is beautiful but at least she has some meat on her bones. I think I just need to watch British programmes.
As for the poll, I don't know... I was just trying to stir something up. :P I was going to do all the sports teams and which city is overall the best.
