When I watched the promo for the episode, I told my spouse that I would probably skip the episode because he didn't want to hear my ranting. (I first came across the Trickster reading Blue Devil. I also dislike the 1990 Flash tv show, for reasons not including casting or music. Third, the Trickster Archtype is important to me from a cultural and personal standpoint, and people who 'don't get it' really drive me nuts.)
So instead of forcing my poor spouse to hear my ranting, I complained to some my comic book loving friends. They promptly told me to 'chill, dude', at least give the episode a chance, and pointed me in the direction of a review from gorogues on Tumblr (that I think was written by liabrown). Reading the review made me feel good enough to at least watch the episode, especially in light of katzedecimal's comment.
I'm glad I watched the episode. I mostly enjoyed it.
As neotama said, the story involving Eobard was indeed terrifying. It explains SO much. It also brings forward one of the quintessential character traits of Eobard Thawne: creepy stalking.
I found Axel Walker to be pretty much in character, especially as he first appeared in the comics. (He had all the traits that usually make me want to shake him like a rag doll.)
So, yeah, I'd love to see our ex-aerialist, experience junkie, Bugs Bunny-esque con artist Giovanni 'James Jesse' Giuseppe on tv someday, just like katzedecimal said.
