Title: Some Things; "If Easier", "Toys and Playmates"
Pairing: Trickster/Piper, short snippets in a Girl!Piper AU, so het, as well as reference to f/f.
Characters: Hartley Rathaway, James Jesse
Warning: Mature Content, hint of abuse, by authority in the first one, domestic in the second one. Brief consensual bondage h/c in the second one.

If Easier

Some times James wondered if things would be easier if Piper had been born a boy, if she would be less defensive, less suspicious, been safer, and if she would have been his much sooner, or later (he knew it was still a matter of when). He had seen her sleepless for a week, bloated and bruised at the end of another crisis. He had held her against his breaking heart when she had been out of her mind, shaky and volatile against threats imaginary and real (somewhere, there was the body of a predatory orderly that shall never be found). He understood now that form had little relevance for him, when he had found someone so precious, someone that he'll bend all of his rules for.

Toys and Playmates

In her younger and more vulnerable years, Hartley had dated men who were short fuses with fragile egos, and she had dated women who were short fuses with fragile egos - all quick to anger and offence, it was like walking on egg shells even when they weren't fighting. The women that Piper dated early on were closet cases who were as enamoured of Hartley's beauty and grace as they were threatened by it, and for all their different blue collared upbringing - in their bitterness they sounded too much like Hartley's mother. She doesn't know if her taste in men were better or worse, the pretty thugs she had a taste for in men were less apt at cutting her with words - but they made up for that by making her fear for her life before she quit them.

James Jesse was completely different, he liked it when she was laughing, even when it was at him. James wasn't threatened by her toys the way Earl was, James used all of them on her and then got her more.

So Hartley allowed James to cuff her to their bed, and it was even better after he gagged her, watching her face so carefully as he brought her off with his toys and his hands and his mouth, over and over again.

AN: Both of these turned out darker than originally intended, the first one, "If Easier", started as "James wondered if it would have been easier if Piper had been born a boy", if Piper would have been less guarded - and maybe girl!Piper would be more guarded than boy!Piper - girls have a lot of reasons to be more careful, but eh, for what James was hoping for, boy!Piper as we see in canon, is still guarded and defensive with Issues.

My Girl!Piper thoughts started out so fluffy too, with Girl!Piper bent over a computer console in tee-shirt and shorts and messy hair, surrounded by take-out containers, while James arrive with home-cooked food and wondered if Boy!Piper would have taken better care of himself domestically, you know, minus rebellion issues courtesy of an overbearing mother that always scold her for not being lady-like. James in an apron fussing over Girl!Piper in hacker clothes in one universe, James in an apron fussing over Boy!PIper in hacker clothes in another universe.

Then I remembered the articles I read on institutional abuse. So I went from James redressing drugged out Girl!Piper's wounds, wondering if she'll be less stupidly stubborn about risks if she had been a boy (no, not by much), to referencing a canon incident where Piper had been institutionalized in a mental ward.

"Toys and Playmates" originated from a very porny image of a blushing and sexed out looking Piper with his/her red hair sprayed out on the pillow, wrists tethered to the headboard with blue thick padded cuffs, mouth gagged with a blue ball gag with yellow and blue straps - I think that would look hot whichever universe that is in, but I totally think that Girl!Piper would be more reluctant about being tied up, while Boy!Piper is more permissive as long as James doesn't leave. Girl!Piper is used to come-ons and a lot of them being shady, and she's aware of the implication that being tied up and gagged means that she can't say no, and would have to rely on James paying enough attention and caring enough to stop if she display signs of distress, that he'll put her safety and enjoyment first. Boy!Piper being more used to rejection, doesn't care :( but James is careful with him anyways.

But you'll note the entire snippet is actually not porny but Piper's Past Relationships Were Forty Cakes Terrible. Sorry, at least it ended well:

James Jesse was completely different, he liked it when Hartley was laughing, even when it was at him.
