If you had told me years ago that I would wind up writing Piper/Trickster slash, I would have laughed myself hoarse. But....... it WORKS. They work together. And I was fond of both characters. And after COUNTDOWN I just threw a fantrum. Which of course is the body of work you've been reading. (Thank you!)
They are cute together. Because they've got some time to cuddle, and laugh, and be goofy. After the horrifying ordeal and stress of COUNTDOWN, they've learned how to live together (not that their 4 years' collective time as cellmates didn't teach them that the hard way, but there's a new level of intimacy when you're shackled to another guy and you've got the shits from eating dumpster food) and they've learned how to RELAX and enjoy life together.
And when they don't know what to do, they DO know how to improvise. And then it's just like jazz. :D
*lol* It's funny...I was playing DCUO with my guy friends last night. I run around as Piper and my husband's core character is Trickster (though he changes outfits as much as James). We were hunting Rogues and out of the blue, one of them proclaims that Piper and Trickster are pretty much dating. Not in the game, in Countdown. So, basically, someone that doesn't even read Flash comics (and only knows Piper's gay because I told him) got the same vibe from Countdown that we did ^^
Then they started beating up the in-game Piper because he wasn't "their Piper" (me). I love my DCUO friends ^^
Hartley and Gio refer to their five-month terrifying ordeal as "The Worst First Date Ever."
In COUNTDOWN, check out the sequence where they are trussed up by Poison Ivy for the "Tell" that shows this is what the writers intended: James has got this goofy grin, totally steeped in Ivy's pheromones... BUT when Hartley starts talking, James TURNS HIS HEAD AND GIVES HARTLEY HIS FULL ATTENTION. This, from a guy blissed out on pheromones. Which shows you how much Hartley means to him after they nearly died falling from a plane.
