Matrimonial musings

"What do you call someone who doesn't fart in public?"
"A private tooter."

...On a classier note, weddings seem to be popping up in more and more places.  Angel's wedding is Saturday evening and things have been buzzing over at the farm.  Her fiance's whole family is there, along with family and friends galore, making pies and shooting grackles.  Their household always seemed to me like a piece of Americana yesteryear; a herd of wholesome, red-cheeked, blonde children who pray (earnestly) before every meal. My family has known theirs for as long as I can remember, and thinking of them tends to exemplify one side of my confused feelings toward American Christianity.

My point is, I can't think of a better human being than Angel. I was having trouble trying to write the text for their wedding card.  I wanted to express how much I valued her friendship over the years - even if we haven't been close - and hope that it would continue over the years, and that I would grow to know and love her husband just as much. I don't think I did a very good job.

On a related note, Angel's and my longtime friend, Starling, just got back from two years in Africa in the Peace Corps.  I really enjoyed seeing her again.  Perhaps too much.  She was looking very, very beautiful...  I am comfortable with having mild sexual fantasies about people that I usually consider to be off-limits, for whatever reason, so I'm trusting this will pass and she will just be my good friend Starling again.
