hey all
at shane's excellent suggestion i'm writing to let you all know how things are going. i've been underway on the USS Hyman G. Rickover for a little more than two months now. she's an old boat (decommissioning not long after we return) and that probably accounts for the fact that we had to pull in to have a little work done on her--check fluid levels, rotate the tires (sorry, tyres), and that lot. nothing too bad, especially for me--as i have no division here.
(i do persistently try to involve myself in machinery division, as that was my division on charlotte. i think the chief here resents it)
there's not much more to be said. i got promoted in the middle of may to lieutenant (junior grade). for good or for evil, it looks like i'll be staying later than was initially planned--perhaps much later. still waiting on word from my boat about that. i'll not lie--i don't really want to. but i hope (and am told) that it'll be better in the long run. certainly the guys on the rickover would prefer that i stay on the watchbill--more sleep for them.
one last request--please send me emails! they brighten the day more than you would believe. i know it's lame as i can't reply, but if you feel like letting me know what's going on in the real world, i know i appreciate it.
and congratulations to all of you new (or second-time) graduates. good work!
