South Louisiana is having its yearly week of slightly chilly weather

Highs in the 40s, that's actually pretty cold for here. Of course the natives are acting like we suddenly got transported to Detroit or something. The 'rents actually turned the heater on downstairs, which we rarely have to do (David and I use it upstairs a bit more often) because a lot of the interior walls are brick. It gave off that horrible burning dust smell, but only for a few minutes.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles is having 100 mph winds (!!! that's a cat 2 hurricane) which of course have started wildfires. I've texted Jamie to check in but not heard anything back yet; I'm not too worried because they're 2 hours behind us, and Jamie works from home most days so I don't think she gets up particularly early. I expect I'll hear from her sometime today.

Rian went home yesterday, so I can finally sink back into my usual introversion. It was so nice to go back upstairs to my bedroom after supper and have a couple of hours to myself. I got to light my candles and burn some incense; I put on leggings, thick fuzzy socks and a sweatshirt and worked on my embroidery and decided to finally start The Underground Railroad. I read the Colson Whitehead novel just before Amazon made it into a series and I always meant to watch it, but I needed to be in the mood. I mean the book was extremely upsetting in some places, and I'm a very visual person so I knew seeing those parts on screen would be a lot. It's good, though. And that Aaron Pierre is sure easy on the eyes.

introversion, wildfires, climate change, the underground railroad
