Weekend accomplishments: August means hurricane season for real

Debby is Florida's problem anyway; we had a severe thunderstorm warning on Saturday night and it came down pretty hard for about 10 minutes, but it blew in and out real fast. I think it was worse north and west of us, we didn't even lose power. It happened during dinner when Mom was watching the news, and they were acting like our storm was the hurricane, it was weird. You shouldn't act like things are more serious than they actually are, because eventually they will be that serious, and you want people to take it seriously, not go "Oh, this again, this is never serious".

Saturday it was real hot and I was tired from not having slept well the night before. I got stupid anxiety brain right before bed for no reason at all and became convinced the a/c wasn't working as well as it should be. I kept waking up and checking it. The really dumb thing about that was that every time I got out of bed I got cold, because the a/c was working fine, it's barely 6 months old. Just great how anxiety is completely unconstrained by logic.

So I had a lot of errands to run and between the heat and my exhaustion I was really struggle bussing it, but I managed to get a lot done anyway. I went to Walmart because I needed underwear, and I wound up with half a dozen pair, a pair of leggings, 2 t shirts, a dress, and a pair of sandals for less than $65. Actually the sandals were $1! The size stamped on the shoe was 8 1/2, but the tag they affix at the factory said 8, so since they couldn't say for sure what size they were they were essentially giving them away. I can wear either size, so it worked fine for me. They're very plain, just 2 brown straps and a sole, which is how I like my sandals.

I went to Tractor Supply for dog food, went to CVS, the gas station, and the carwash. Crawling around inside my car with the vacuum pushed me pretty close to my limit and I started to get dizzy in Rouse's, which I took as a sign that I needed to hydrate immediately, so I grabbed a water out of the cooler and drank it while I finished the grocery shopping, then had them ring it up with the rest of my stuff.

I still had to get home, put away the groceries, get the 'rents fed and eat something myself, put my new clothes in the washer, clean the kitchen, clean up my room a bit, and do some journaling, but at least I was doing it in the air conditioning. I had just decided to try to get in a quick nap, when Mom texted me that Penny was whining but didn't react when asked if she wanted to go outside. So I went downstairs, and when I asked Penny if she wanted to go outside she shot towards the back door like she'd been fired from a canon. So I guess she just wanted me to take her outside for some reason.

I told Mom not to bother me until dinner unless the house was on fire and lay down for a bit, but I could tell I wasn't going to fall asleep. So after just resting for about a half hour, I got back up, took out the trash, and vacuumed the downstairs rugs. David made a pasta dish we all love for supper (rigatoni with roasted red pepper, diced summer sausage, and bread crumbs) and afterwards I decided to watch the series Apple made of Presumed Innocent, even though I'd been "spoiled" for the twist. Which is not the same twist as the 1990 Harrison Ford movie; they made quite a few changes, like Raymond Horgan is a) not a corrupt jerk, and b) becomes Rusty's lawyer. So Sandy Stern, Raul Julia's character in the 1990 movie, is not in the series, although he's mentioned, so the character exists in the series' universe. I know they've already agreed to another season, but Rusty's case is resolved in the finale, so I wonder if Sandy will be the focus of season 2.

Anyway, when I heard about the series I thought it seemed unnecessary, and although I will forever love Donnie Darko I can take or leave adult Jake Gyllenhaal. But people seemed to like it, and then I heard Bill Camp was in it, one of those great character actors who's never been miscast. Anyway, it was okay. I don't love the lingering stench of that Reagan-era "the nuclear family unit must destroy the evil single ambitious career woman" vibe. I heard the re-make of Fatal Attraction did that better, although I haven't seen it.

Sunday I made a big dutch baby with sausage for breakfast. I changed/washed the bed sheets, baked a cake, heated up some leftover pasta for lunch, made pizza dough and set it in the oven to proof, had some wine and read a bunch more of Crook Manifesto. Oh, and I washed all the dishes in the dishwasher by hand, because when I went to start it Saturday night nothing happened. *sigh* I don't like the idea of crusty dishes just festering for days, and I'm sure it's easier to fix when it's empty. Dinner was pizza, which doesn't really require much prep, I grate my cheese and slice my veggies while it's going through that second half hour rise. I did turkey pepperoni, red onion, sweet pepper slices, and olives.

Dessert was the coffee cake from One Tin Bakes, which is my final boss coffee cake recipe, I see no reason to ever make another.

I also did a fair amount of painting and made a little video of the book I recently finished (granted there were a few pages torn out when I decided I'd messed something up beyond repair or just got tired of trying to fix a mistake I couldn't live with).

This one I may do over, I like the concept but I see several things that I want to fix.

This one is perfect, no notes.

heatstroke, foodie, hurricane season, pizza, she's crafty, coffee cake, one tin bakes, watercolors, presumed innocent, stupid anxiety brain, oh no a woman with ambition
