Billie Eilish got $25 million for her doc, I can wear sweats and have a brother

Weather looks like it will be lovely on Sunday in New Orleans, high of 72° and like 6% chance of rain. So I'm going to leave tomorrow afternoon; I don't want to get there too early because I don't want Lori to feel like she has to entertain me all day or anything. I guess I'll just put my car in a lot, there's plenty in that neighborhood because street parking in the CBD is really limited.

I finished both Welcome to Hard Times and Bear Season: On the Disappearance of Jade Hunter by Carla G. Young in a 48-hour period, both of them were short novels. I did not care for the former, which I found nasty and brutish. The latter I liked better, it had that sort of vagueness that I enjoy in horror if it's done well. Elizabeth Hand's Wylding Hall being probably the best example.

After that I decided to treat myself to something both long and non-fiction, and decided on Candace Millard's River of the Gods, about the expedition to find the source of the White Nile. I collect hot 19th century dudes, and Richard Francis Burton definitely could get it.

I finished the new season of Girls5eva, which somehow got even more unhinged after moving to Netflix. It's always had hilarious but sort of obscure pop culture references, and my favorite one this season was the Olive Garden-ish restaurant that kept recurring, Macaroni Rascals. "Macaroni Rascals" is what Japan titled Jersey Shore when it aired in that country.

Mom and Phil have both fallen and bruised the shit out of their faces in the past week, although luckily neither of them broke anything. I told them to knock it off because I don't want the neighbors to think David and I are elder abusers. Seriously though, this is kind of why nursing homes exist! I don't know how much longer we can do this! Sigh.

I did one of the tiny locket paintings last night.

It's very simple; it's really just a proof of concept to see how well it worked. I may do a better one later on.

Or maybe I'll keep this one. I kind of like the simplicity the more I look at it. And the gold color of the locket with the orange-red of the painting works. It's very autumnal.

welcome to hard times, richard francis burton, watercolors, river of the gods, parenting your parents, super sunday, girls5eva, bear season
