And boy do I need it, because me and everyone else in the house spent a good chunk of early this morning shivering out on the porch while a dozen firefighters stomped through the house.
Up front, no one was hurt and our house didn't burn down (or even have a small, localized fire). What happened was this: David and I were woken up by the smoke alarm around 3:30 in the morning and smoke was coming out of the air vents. We didn't know if the heater, which had been on since shortly after supper the previous night--we're having another cold snap--was just malfunctioning, or if something in the walls was smoldering and might eventually burst into flame. Erring on the side of caution, David called 911. Boy, the neighbors must love us. Every other week since last summer, we've had the street full of emergency vehicles.
Anyway, long story short, one of the heating panels burned out and started smoking, and the fan pushed the smoke through the vents. So we just had to turn off the heat and pile some extra blankets onto our beds, problem solved. It took about 45 minutes to sort out, but I read for another 45 minutes, too tense to try to sleep, finally going back to sleep around 5:00 in the morning. Super fun!!
Today I'm understandably tired, and keep getting flashes of panic. Probably just leftovers from last night that will be banished with a good night's sleep. I'm definitely going to treat myself to a gummy tonight.
So, to the actual self-care: I've tried most of the new skincare stuff in the past 24 hours. I did the marine serum after washing my face last night, did the rice enzyme exfoliating scrub before my shower, and the green tea toner after shower/before moisturizing, I used the lavender hand cream before bed last night. And look how cute the blueberry lip balm is!
It looks like a blueberry!
I went to Michael's and got a skein of the yellow embroidery floss I need to finish the Fool tarot card cross stitch, although I probably won't get back to that until I finish the paint by number mushrooms. I also browsed the paper craft aisles and got some stickers (one set for my planner, one a New Orleans theme set for a Mardi Gras-themed collage I want to make), refills for my Tombow adhesive tape, and a bottle of rainbow gold leaf flakes. (That last was only $3.99, so... probably not actual gold.)
Also the smoke smelled god-awful--David described it as "burning toenails"--so all day I've been blasting a mixture of orange, lemon, peppermint, and eucalyptus essential oils from the diffuser, and the smoke smell is nearly gone,
