Self-care Saturday

I finally went to the new Aldi in Lafayette, which isn't really new anymore since it opened last summer. I'd been expecting a Trader Joe's to open in Lafayette--there's one in Baton Rouge and a couple in New Orleans/Metairie. Instead we got an Aldi. I was looking for advent calendars, but those are apparently a hot item. They only had ones that were either booze (wine, beer, hard seltzer), or for kids (Harry Potter and Frozen themes, Legos) left. Those two things may be related, come to think of it.

So I had to content myself with grabbing a couple boxes of fancy chocolates (I gave one to Mom) and a Terry's chocolate orange (my favorite holiday treat) and some Christmas-themed window gels. One Saturday when there isn't a special at Rouse's that I need to get, I'd like to get the regular groceries at Aldi, just to compare.

I've been in kind of a rut with reading for a couple of months now, only wanting to re-read old favorites and finding it hard to focus on anything new. I can't tell if that's a reaction to stress, or if I had the bad luck to pick a string of books that just aren't totally engaging me for some reason. But it's felt a little bit like wallowing. I'm easing back into reading something new with some true crime, which ought to be an easy on-ramp. The 3rd season of Netflix's Crime Scene was about the I-45/Texas Killing Fields case(s), which I knew just enough about to be curious. One of the talking heads was Kathryn Casey, who wrote the definitive book about it, Deliver Us. So I decided to read her book.

No, I do not care to delve too deeply into why I find true crime to be a comforting genre.

It's December, so I took down my hurricane season altar, took everything off the bureau and used glass cleaner, and set up my St. Lucy altar.

hurricane season, december, texas killing fields, crime scene, netflix, saint lucy, true crime, kathryn case, deliver us, aldi, trader joe's, terry's chocolate orange
