(no subject)

A few days ago I started having teeth sensitivity with cold drinks, then Friday night it turned much more concentrated to one tooth and the pain is now a constant throbbing.

I went to an emergency dentist on Saturday and they said I need a root canal and gave me a prescription for Tylenol 3 with codeine for the meantime.

It's Sunday today and I've been spending all of my time reading about root canals. Turns out it's a fascinating and complicated subject.

'Biological dentistry' is a thing. The basic theory is that your teeth are connected to and affect the rest of your body so toxins should be avoided. Of course I'm on board with that.

Root canals apparently trap in bacteria, which then turns toxic and has a direct connection to your blood stream. 99% of dentists don't sterilize the tooth correctly and rely on antibiotics to clear any remaining infection but it doesn't work when the bacteria is trapped in the root.

There is only one way that has been proven to sterilize the tooth as much as possible. You have to use two particular chemicals and leave them filled in the root for at least 1 month for them to work. Most dentists don't do this and have the whole thing plus crown done in under a week.

So now I just have to call around to probably a hundred dentists to find one who is willing to do it this particular way for me. And I have to do it quickly as I can't stay hopped up on pain meds forever.

Sigh. But man, I will never let this happen to me again. I have tons of dental work that needs doing and I'm finally going to make it a priority. I inherited my parents self care routine which is nothing ever unless it's an emergency. And that has to stop. I need to believe I am worth the trouble and cost.

I also need to stop chewing fucking ice. GAH!
