Where Hel goes, Dean follows. Part 2
Ragnarok, purgatory style…
Hel knelt and drew a series of runes in the black sand. She stood up and began to chant. All life stood still as the surface water began churning and from depths of the sea gnawing and scraping sounds like something fighting its way upward could be heard.
The sea churned more violently and great waves began to crash down upon the shoreline. Hel remained where she stood as Jormungand broke free from his imprisonment. The Serpent's head hovered high above the lake and Hel raised sword high above her head.
”Jormungand, my brother. Our Mother needs our help. Behind are our allies, all other are our enemies. Thor hides in Asgard and Odin is dead. Only we, Loki's children remember our duty. Kill Them All,” Hel screamed and brought the sword down and at that signal all of purgatory became one great writhing mess of blood and guts.
Hel and Eve watched as Jormungand fell upon the eastern flank of the Leviathan and their allies. Venom from the Serpent's mouth sprayed over the monsters and Leviathan alike and they died in agony as the Serpent's poison dissolved everything in its path. The Serpent slithered through the chaos devouring those who escaped its venom shower. It raised its great head and rained venom down upon the battle mess and then dived down into the upheaval to feed once more.
Dragons battled one another their bursts of fire causing the twilight sky to appear more like a sunny day. Hel remained unmoved while all around her death and destruction reigned supreme. She walked calmly through the melé, her sword decapitating whatever got in her way. By her side, Eve clawed, bit, chewed and spat out anything that crossed her path, be it her own child or her Leviathan kin.
The Leviathan Chief raised its foul head and attacked Eve. The two cousins tore at each other in a fight to the death. The waters of the lake rose and fell in huge waves as the Serpent's body followed where its head led, crushing anything that stood in its way.
When Eve decapitated the Leviathan Chief and threw his remains into the Serpent’s open mouth, the battle was won. Then there was only the aftermath as those monsters who had sided with the Leviathan were chased down by Eve's blood-crazed and devoted children.
”Finally, All is mine to rule as I see fit. That was fun,” Eve said brightly. “You should visit more often.” Now returned to human form she licked her fingertips clean of blood while surveying her kingdom.
”You would not survive a second visit,” Hel said flatly.
”Perhaps not. Do you plan to try and stop your 'Little Cousin' from opening the door for us?” Eve asked sweetly trying to gauge what Hel would do next.
”I have no interest in what happens to Purgatory. This is your domain and you will rule it as you see fit. Besides, I plan not to be there,” Hel said. Jomungand had placed himself behind the two woman, his great body coiling and uncoiling, destroying most of Purgatory's landscape. Eve arched an eyebrow and turned back to her daughter.
”I don't suppose you will be taking baby brother with you when you leave?” It was a demand and Hel recognised it as such. This suited the Norsewoman and she smiled coldly at Eve. Mother and Daughter parted with mutual animosity, each plotting against the other.
Dean meets The Great Snake.
Hel arrived at the rendezvous point precisely the same time as the Reaper appeared with a very annoyed Dean Winchester. Hel killed the Reaper with her sword and threw his body back through the portal as it closed sealing it forever.
”How do we get out of here? Where is here?” Dean asked looking around him at the carnage left from Hel and Eve's alliance..
“By entering Hell and in Purgatory,” Hel answered indifferently. ”You have the Amulet and Sword Castiel gave you?”
”Yeah. Did you say through Hell?” Dean asked and did his best to hide the panic and fear that raced through his body.
”Yes. There is a task to perform and you shall do it,” Hel said and started walking away.
”Wait a minute, Goddamnit. What task and why me?” Dean called. Around him the rustling sound of foliage moving and a gnashing sound like that of a rattlesnake on amphetamine echoed.
”Razing Hell and because you are The Righteous Man,” Hel calmly replied.
”That ship passed a long time ago Lady, I'm not that man.” Dean dry heaved as the memories of that horrendous legacy reared their ugly heads.
”Why my father and Death ever thought you and my little cousin had courage, let alone conviction, is beyond my knowledge,” Hel snapped.
”Jomungand. Stop. He is our ally in the fight against those who kill our kin,” Hel snapped angrily looking upward. Dean followed her gaze and promptly fell on his behind at the sight of the Serpents mouth closing around giant fangs. He pushed himself back and out of the way of a giant drop of venom. It burned into the ground.
”What the Hell is that?” he squeaked in shock and horror. Then he recovered himself and stood up.
”What the Hell is that?” he asked again still in shock but more composed. Hel was decidedly unimpressed with his reaction.
”My baby brother. Now, shall we go dethrone the King of Hell?” Hel replied. Without waiting for a reply she stormed ahead. Dean running to catch up with her and the giant serpent following.
”How, exactly, do you plan on doing that? And how do we get into Hell?” Dean asked having to jog to keep pace with Hel and out of range of 'baby brother's' venom drops. Hel stopped and turned to him in frustration. ”Didn't Castiel tell you anything about that Amulet and that Sword?
Dean looked blankly at her. Hel glared at him with a look that reminded him of Castiel's 'Smite you in the name of the Lord’.
”An Amulet which burns in the presence of God and a Sword forged from an Angel-blade. Unless my information is completely wrong, in which case I will feed you to Jomungand now, you were supposed to wield such weapons as Michael’s Sword.”
With that she walked ahead, leaving Dean to decide whether or not he wished to live or die. He chose to live and scampered after her. They continued in silence for another ten minutes and then Hel stopped.
In front of her was a deformed looking tree and a boulder at its base. Hel held out her hand and spoke. There was a dull glow from around the boulder but nothing more. She muttered something under her breath which Dean took to mean 'balls', or there about. He dropped his head to hide his grin. Good to know Goddesses could get things wrong.
”You will have to move the boulder,” Hel ordered Dean. Dean would have protested but the snake began moving impatiently.
”What's up with him?” he asked.
”Impatience. It has been a while since he's eaten, or played for that matter,” Hel added as an afterthought.
Dean didn't ask what the snake thought was play. He went over to the boulder and began to push with all his strength. It gave way and he stepped through into a tunnel. Dean turned to see Hel her sword towards her 'baby brother' and chanted while weaving patterns in the air with her other hand. The sword glowed white hot and a thick fog formed around the body of the giant snake. When the fog cleared and blade had cooled Dean noted that the image of a serpent twisted around it.
He'd have to remember to tell Sam and Bobby about this, assuming they all lived through this coming madness. Hel stepped into the tunnel and commanded him to close the entrance. Once he'd done that she placed the tip of her sword against the rock. It crackled, split and melt into the surrounding earthen wall and a single Enochian sigil burnt into the middle of it. Dean recognised it as a single word “Gabriel”.
