in order for philosophy/theory to be a guide to action for the people who are its alleged subjects, this theory must risk essentialism-- risk that there are given commonalities between populations of people.
it's become increasingly clear to me over the past two weeks that this doesn't mean god doesn't exist, as i was pretty much convinced over break, but rather that there has to be something unifying us all.
