As I was lapsing in and out of consciousness, I was alternately scribbling my character motivations & basic flow of events for a story I'm writing, and reading the first part of my advance reading copy of THE DRY SALVAGES, Caitlin R. Kiernan's new book (yet to be published)
Dust jacket by Ryan Obermeyer
I intend to write a great deal about this book when I am further along. For now, I have to say that the sense of isolation and disconnection is almost overpowering to me, and I love it. I used to have a recurring nightmare about space and distance when I was little and woke up shaking each time. This is like that. It is so intimate that it feels like it's a part of my mind already & I'm sort of finding it there.
Also, the premise, which I didn't know til I started reading (I did not read the back first) is something I've always daydreamed about since childhood as well - exopaleontology. This book is blowing all of the circuits of my brain all the way back to my early memories & dreams. I can't wait to go into part II tonight.
