further proof that i am not a morning person:
my german oral exam was today. i already had a list of questions and subjects we would talk about throughout the interview, and i'm comfortable speaking german. so i wasn't stressed about the exam. the problem was that my interview time was scheduled for 845AM. that meant i had to leave the house shortly after eight. that meant that my mind actually had to be functioning before 9AM.
so as i walk into the room and greet my professor who is ready to interview me, she asks me (in german) how my day is going. immediately, and without any thought, i answer IN RUSSIAN. right away, i apologize and give her my response in german. but i think being up so early (for me) in the morning jumbled my brain a bit. i don't know where the russian came from. it was just a natural response. nonetheless, it frightened me a little. but the rest of the interview went great, and i managed to keep the conversation in german, rather than in russian.
but it was odd. very odd. serves me right for waking up so early.
on another note: summer begins so early in texas. it's getting rather warm outside.
and this year i've made a promise to look at summer differently.
for example, instead of complaining about the hot weather and being sweaty, i will try to enjoy 'light outdoor activity' every so often (i.e. cool drinks on a patio, basking in the pool with a bottle of wine, riding my bike after dusk when the air starts to cool down).
and instead of complaining about how the sun is so bright that it hurts my eyes, i will enjoy wearing sunglasses that i can coordinate with my outfits.
and instead of hating that every time i get into the car i feel like i'm getting into an oven, i will drive around aimlessly listening to good music, with the windows rolled down and the breeze cooling me.
summer should be good then, right?
