I really say the dumbest things sometimes.

Today was hands-down one of the worst days I've had at this job; there were too many meltdowns, toys thrown in my face, and kids talking back to me--it was one of those days where you keep staring at the clock, but time's going by about five times more slowly than usual (and the clock fell off the wall when one of the kids slammed the bathroom door, and it doesn't say the right time anyway!)

By the end of the day, when we just had two kids left, Kayla (my co-worker) and I were pretty slap-happy and ready to get the final two out of there. There was V, who is a white kid (this is a significant detail) and X, who is a black child.

They were helping me put little milk cartons into the refrigerator in our classroom, and for some reason they were fighting about it.

I said this: "V, you get the white milk, and X, you put away the chocolate milk! Problem solved!"

And then I gave Kayla a horrified look and we both burst into slap-happy laughter.

What's worse is that I got frustrated last week because we're supposed to sort our white rags and, erm, colored rags into two different bins, but I'm the only one in the class who seems to know this. At the end of the day, I have to stick my hands into the dirty rag bins to separate them before putting them in the laundry room. So I finally stuck huge labels on them that say "WHITE" and "COLORED" ...and immediately tried to get them off when I realized what it might imply.
