what is the difference between wired router and modem? im looking at bt and tiscali broadband and bt send you a wired router and tiscali send you a modem.
What keithlard said, basically. A modem is normally a little box that plugs into a USB port, whereas a router supports multiple network connections - most reasonably modern laptops and computers have a network socket built-in (normally above the USB ports on a desktop, on a laptop usually next to the dial-up modem socket.) Strictly speaking a "broadband router" includes a broadband modem.
hmm wondering which to go for now...prob the bt one i think!
(im getting rid of my wireless broadband and going for 'wired' broadband....however im currently with orange and if i do that with them i have to have low speed aswell theres no high speed non wireless!)
Well I use the comp a lot and I don't like the fact that the house is being filled with whatever it is that that little box sends out. I know theres no proof it's dangerous or not but I don't really need it I only ever use the laptop in one location so it's also a waste of money really!
You could always ask around your friends and see if anyone's got a spare broadband modem .. the ISPs seem to send them to everyone when they sign up, so people who've changed providers, or bought their own wireless router, might have one spare...

How come? Sounds like a downgrade to me (assuming you're not talking about internet access using your mobile) ...
