Views on Alternative Genre of Music

Okay, I know the whole thing with music nowadays is up and coming cool alternative bands, right? Meriwether, Paramore, 30 Seconds to Mars, Muse, Dashboard Confessional, and the like.
Well, I have come to the conclusion that Alternative is not! my favorite music genre! Everytime I listen to a new alternative band, I just feel like it's more and more of the same. Fast paced, good lyrics that you can barely understand, same sort of instrumental, un-catchy. Are you getting my drift? I introduced myself to Meriwether last night, and, well, I don't know... just that style seems so boring. I seek for something FRESH. Happy lyrics you can understand, lots of instrumentals. Angst isn't my favorite thing to listen to. Something to escape reality, to imagine a better world, not to listen about other people's sucky lives. Although, sometimes it's good to have a good shot of reality. I'm not asking for mainstream pop, though some can be good... I don't know. I feel unsatisfied with the music scene these days. I'm trying to immerse myself in new genres and artists with something new to contribute to the music scene. Indies are fun. Everything on the Juno soundtrack? That's cool. It's different. That music makes you (well, at least me) do a double take. Then you listen to it again and feel, "Hey, this is kind of cool!" I'm pressuring myself to widen myself to different kinds of music. Reggae, indie, hip hop, electronic, folk... I have also realized that freebies on iTunes are sometimes good. Not all the time though, so watch out! Never download their country music! It sucks. Country is unbearable with the exception of some Taylor Swift (her lyrics are meaningful, her voice is pretty, and I love her hair). Also, if you listen to some different, less popular songs of uberpopular mainstream pop artists, I have found that is an effective way of finding something new that you like. Such as, Fergie's album, The Duchess, has really great music on it, and not just her crazy popular songs. "All That I've Got" is an amazing song, with will.i.am featured in it. And I love will.i.am.
Since going to a public school, my music boundaries have been stretching. Tyler introduced me to Neutral Milk Hotel, a really really great indie band (though quite angsty and different). Check out their songs "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" and "King of Carrot Flowers Pt. 1." When I lent Haley my iPod, she said she could not stop listening to "King of Carrot Flowers," even when she was bawling over the lyrics, she couldn't stop listening to it. The band's style took me a little time to get into, but I'm glad I downloaded those songs.
MGMT is a great band I discovered from the free download on iTunes. The lyrics of their song "Time to Pretend" can be a little... disturbing with all its drug references and such, but the instrumentals are catchy, especially the beginning. "Electric Feel" is a great song as well with a catchy beginning. MGMT's music is not exactly something to dance to, more like background music if you will, but cool electronic indie background music.
Asa is another interesting artist I discovered on iTune's discovery free download. Her song "Jailer" is thoughtful with meaningful lyrics and catchy beats, as it is reggae, though iTunes describes the genre as "world." Asa's voice is deep and full, kind of raspy.
If you haven't heard of French Hebrew artist Yael Naim, well, I don't know what to say. You may know her from singing the song "New Soul" on Apple's commercial for the Macbook Air. Her music is cute, happy, and has a hint of being soulful. "Paris" is another one of my favorites by Yael, which she sings in Hebrew. I haven't a clue what she's saying, but it is pretty.
