PC's can be rather tempremental with regard to DJing. I've been on too many dancefloors when everything has gone quiet to trust them. I bought a Mac...

The new MacBooks start at £749 new, but they've just released the newer model with the Intel CoreDuo2 chip, so expect to see some of the (slightly) older ones with the CoreDuo chips entering the second hand market pre-christmas. I wouldn't be concerned about buying one used, as most Mac owners tend to keep thier machines in top working order. I bought mine from second hand about 6 months ago and I haven't had a single problem with it (whereas buying a used PC is just asking for trouble ( ... )

That might help even things up a bit. Still has 180 days warranty (fully transferrable). If you're buying used, check if the Mac was oowned and used by the person selling it, and collect from the seller. Find out why they are selling it, too. Many newer Macs are unwanted presents and have never really been used...

Also, if you are thinking new I believe that Apple do quite a useful student discount (6%(?), so a new MacBook would only set you back £700 anyway!)

*off to buy shares in Apple*

go here and tell me that doesn't make you squeal with huge amounts of girlie delight!

i don't want to compromise quality for pinkness though, i'd rather get a boring coloured one and make it a jacket or something.

depends on puter really, but i'm thinking pink, possibly fluffy, possibly sparkly, possibly uv.

this is, of course, if i have the time to make one. you can buy quite pretty laptop skins on t'interweb but prices are a bit silly for what they actually are.

I wouldn't buy from Dixons. And I'm not sure about the brand either.

That's not to say it's not good, though.

are dixons dodgy? i thought they were alright, but don't really have much experience with them. yeah i was wondering about the brand too, i've only ever used dell in the past so don't know what to expect from anyone else really.

Wouldn't touch them. Everything I have ever bought has gone back.

I've never had problems, The dodginess, is generally due to how their business model operates. They offer stupid savings, by cutting back on staff levels, and not having a shop, just a high speed warehouse. 19 times out of 20, everything is all good and fine.

When something goes wrong (like, you get faulty goods), then yeah, it can be a bugger to get things changed, and you have to jump through hoops a little/be lucky enough to talk to the right person (who there seems to be only one of). Thats where the dodginess comes from. I'd like to say something about that, but never having had any problems, I cant comment on it. Its a bit of a gamble I guess, but I'd say worthwhile when you are looking at saving sixty/seventy quid+ or getting a far better laptop.

awww id get a Mac for Djing , PCs can be kinda funny, tho some models of toshiba are not bad.... im trying to save up for a mac myself exclusively for audio work. plus its rare for them to get spyware or viruses, they certainly dont crash as often. :-P
