The short answer is that it doesn't matter: the site should appear to have a white background for everyone who looks at it online.

The reason it works in Firefox and not in IE is that IE's preferences come straight from Windows, while Firefox is independent. So if your system preferences are to show white backgrounds as pink then IE will show it as pink. :-)

Did you say you had the background colour of the site set to "white"? I think if you changed it to #ffffff then that *might* sort it out.
