Ernie pushed open the front door and poked his head in, calling out his wife's name. He waited a few minutes to make sure she wasn't actually home before he walked in and up the stairs. He set a
bouquet on the coffee table and put a small, wrapped box down next to it. That done he moved into the kitchen to open a bottle of wine.
With a small smile, Lisa Apparated into the bedroom, a small tissue-wrapped package in her hands. "Ernie?" she called.
"In the kitchen," he shouted.
She slipped out of her heels and padded from the bedroom downstairs and into the kitchen, her smile growing when she saw her husband. "Hello, you," she said in greeting as she set her package down on the table.
"Hi. Want a glass?" he asked, raising his own full one.
"Are you trying to lower my inhibitions?"
He laughed softly and handed her his glass. "Do I need to?"
She smiled and shook her head as she took a sip of the beverage. "No, you don't," she answered, moving closer to him. She set her glass down on the table and wrapped her arms around his waist, nuzzling his neck fondly.
It was nearly crazy, how happy and content he made her feel. In Ernie's arms, she felt safe, at home. He was her family now. Every day that passed, she fell more and more in love with him, a feat that a little over a year ago, she would have scoffed at. And to make things barmier, she'd found her mind drifting to children. Not now, of course, but in the future. She wanted to have children with Ernie, to raise a family together.
Ernie put his arms around her, rubbing her back gently. "If you are at all interested, there are some presents for you in the living room."
"Presents?" she asked, pulling back to give him a faux-surprised look. "For me? What's the occasion?"
"It's Valentine's Day." Wasn't it? He told Wendi to mark the calendar, but it wouldn't have been the first time she'd marked the wrong day. Then again, February fourteenth was hard to miss.
She laughed and took his hand, squeezing it gently. "I know it is, silly. I have a little something for you, too, if you're a good boy."
"When am I not a good boy? And we're not counting last night."
Lisa pretended to think about it. "When you snarl at Ella? I'd say that's pretty mean, considering she's nothing but sweet."
"She also sticks her cold, wet nose in the middle of my back every morning without fail. That's pretty mean." And it jostled him out of his nice, warm sleep with his nice, warm wife.
"She just wants some loving," the blonde replied, giving him her most angelic eyes. His hand, still warm in hers, was brought to her lips, and a soft kiss was brushed over each fingertip before she took the tip of his index finger between her lips, sucking gently.
She released it and let their joined hands drop back down. "I can't say I blame her," she murmured coyly.
"Yes, well, she's not going to get loving from me in the near future. You on the other hand..." he trailed off, leering.
"Oh? Am I going to be lucky enough for some loving?"
"That all depends on the present you bought me." What could he say, he liked presents.
Lisa smiled and leaned in to press a quick kiss to his lips. "Let's just say it's a present for me that's a present for you."
He liked that idea, quite a lot, and he told her as much.
"Good. Now, I believe you mentioned something about presents," she replied with an excited grin. "Show?"
"Coffee table. You go on, I'll get the wine." He watched her walk away, enjoying the view immensely before he grabbed the glasses and the bottle and followed her out.
She walked into the living room, letting out a soft 'ooooh' when she saw the flowers. "Oh, Ernie, they're beautiful!"
And they were red, which his sisters assured him was necessary for Valentine's Day flowers. "I'm glad you like them."
Lisa grinned and whirled around, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Thank you, love," she murmured before she pressed her lips to his.
"You act like I've never brought you flowers before," he murmured crossly. "And it's only half the present."
"But I like flowers," she said, cupping his cheek and pulling back to look at him with a fond smile. "And you know it. So where's the other half of my present, husband of mine?"
He pulled away, giving her a light smack on the bottom as he moved around her and toward the sofa. "On the table, by the flowers."
With a smile, the blonde glanced towards where he indicated, the small box catching her eye. "And what have we here?" she asked as she tugged on the red ribbon that was tied around the package.
"That's the fun of presents, you have to open them to find out."
"Cheeky," Lisa commented as she quickly pulled the ribbon off of the box and made quick work of the paper beneath. Flipping open the box, her jaw dropped and she gasped, eyes widening when she took in the beautiful
necklace nestled inside. "Oh, Ernie..."
He was going to take that to mean she liked it. Maybe. Anyway, if she didn't, he was blaming it all on his mum and his sisters. They'd dragged him around to all the shops. Though if she did like it, he was taking all the credit. "What do you think?"
She managed to drag her gaze from the beautiful heart pendant to her husband, her blue eyes alight with awe. "I love it," she breathed, a smile threatening to split her face in two.
"Oh, good. I picked it out all by myself, I'll have you know," he told her, grinning playfully. It was such a lie, but that was okay.
"Uh huh," she teased. "Which sister helped you?"
"Well, there were four of them. And my mum." He'd wanted to send them along with the money and stay home with his da, but they were having none of that.
Lisa grinned. "So, which one picked this out? Who do I send the thank you note to?"
"I'll take the thanks, in whatever form you choose to give it." He was hoping for something very physical. "Because, yes, I am capable of making some decisions."
"So I should just put the card on the bedside table, then?" she asked, her tone light and teasing as she moved towards him.
"You could, or you could forget the card altogether and go put on my present," and nothing else. And then Ernie would consider himself paid in full.
Her eyes were a dark shade of blue as she looked at him, lips twitching. "Who said it's something for me to wear?" she asked huskily, even though it was.
"Well, I was talking about the present I just gave to you, but I'm open to hearing more about this one, too." He was easygoing like that.
Lisa giggled and leaned in to kiss him quickly. "Well, sit down then and make yourself comfortable. I'll be right back."
