The best thing about being apart...

She hadn't told Stephen she'd returned a few days ahead of the rest of her family. It was a surprise, and hopefully one he'd enjoy. Cassie had taken a chance that the Cornfoots would host a New Year's Eve ball of some sort, and she'd dressed accordingly. As she Apparated to the grand estate, encountering no difficulty with the wards she was certain would have blocked her on most other days, it appeared her gamble was going to pay off.

Approaching the door, she was careful to stay close to a group of guests. Since she was not expected, her name would not be on the guest list. While it was likely she could have them get Stephen and he'd allow her entrance, the surprise would be much more fun if she was able to approach him completely unaware inside the fortress of Carisbrooke. She hovered behind the Nivens family as the doorman examined their invitation, slipping in alongside them with more ease than her pounding heart had anticipated. Now to find Stephen.

The customary blank face Stephen wore at events such as this was plastered firmly on his face as he listened to Joselyn Avery blathering on about something he couldn't have cared less about. Manners demanded he be a gentleman and listen, though; his parents couldn't seem to understand the fact that he had a girlfriend, and were still trying to set him up with the eldest Avery daughter.

A swish of a silver gown caught his eye, and his head whipped to the side, glancing around furtively. He could've sworn he saw Cassie, but it must've just been his imagination. She was still in France with her family.

"Stephen?" Joselyn asked in her sickly sweet voice. "Are you listening?"

No. "Yes, Joselyn." He wondered, in a vague sort of way, if it would be a social faux pas to slit his wrists.

Cassie spotted him, looking politely bored and miserable as some deb in a garish pink gown with a face like a bulldog kept up a seemingly constant stream of chatter. Much as she would've liked to to hex the hell out of the other woman, she wasn't here to cause a scene. She just missed her boyfriend.

Coming up behind him, Cassie subtly ran a hand over Stephen's bum. "Surprise," she purred.

Whirling around, Stephen's eyes widened for a half-second before his face broke out in a huge grin. "Cassie," he murmured, cupping her face in his hands and kissing her before she could speak.

A little squeak escaped her as their lips met, and Cassie's arms slid over his shoulders to hug him tightly. Merlin, she'd missed this. Missed him. There was an indignant clearing of a throat from behind Stephen, probably from the woman he'd been roped into spending time with, but truth be told Cassie didn't much care. It was only when they came up for air of their own accord that she peeked around him with a passably apologetic smile. "I'm so sorry for interrupting. You know how it is when you don't get to see your beau for weeks, you get a little caught up in the reunion."

Oh, he was going to get caught up in her in approximately five minutes. Planting his hand firmly on the small of her back, Stephen turned and gave Joselyn a fake, apologetic smile. "Joselyn Avery, Cassandra Montgomery. Excuse us."

Ignoring the protestations of the dour woman he'd been forced to spend the evening with, he turned back to his girlfriend and immediately started steering her out of the ballroom. "Love, you didn't tell me you were coming back early. Is anything wrong?"

Happily allowing him to guide her through the large house, she leaned into his side. "Everything's fine. I just wanted to see you. Save you from one more awful evening. Are you surprised? Did you miss me?"

"Did I miss you?" He glanced from side to side, making sure they were alone. Which, of course, they were, given he'd led her back through the manor to the private family quarters. With a smirk, he maneuvered her back against the wall, leaning in to capture her lips in a searing kiss. His hands cupped her hips, pulling them flush against his own.

After a long, thorough snog, he pulled back with a cheeky smirk. "Did that answer your question?"

Cassie's breathing was a little shallow and she knew her lips were likely plump with his kisses as she met his gaze. "I'm not sure. I might need a little more convincing," she answered with a grin. Her hands smoothed up Stephen's sides beneath his jacket. It felt fantastic to have him beneath her fingers again.

She'd enjoyed the time with her family, always enjoyed being with them, but by the middle of the second week they all knew her thoughts were far away. Even Papa had told her to go home. They could tell the distance was making her unhappy.

He ducked his head in to run his nose along the slender column of her throat, inhaling her familiar sweet scent. "Then by all means," he murmured as he took her hand, "let me convince you." He tugged on her hand and pulled her through the closest doorway, pushing her back against the door as soon as it shut behind them.

Glancing around the room, Cassie beamed at the youthful decor. A poster for the 1996 Quidditch Cup hung on the wall, Puddlemere and Falmouth facing off for all eternity. Her eyes fluttered closed as Stephen's lips brushed her skin. "Do you feel naughty? Bringing me to your childhood bedroom?" She brushed her knee up the inside of his thigh. "It kind of turns me on."

"That probably stems from some psychological issue that we're not going to delve into until after I delve into you," he murmured, fisting his hands in the material of her gown and tugging upwards. He couldn't see her legs, and that was just wrong.

"Brilliant idea," she concurred, fingers moving to loosen his belt. Her plans for the evening had not involved bedding her boyfriend at the ball, but really, she should have known better. It had been nearly two weeks. Self control was not in great supply just now. "How handy that I decided to forgo knickers tonight, then," Cassie added as she pushed his zipper down.

"Very clever of you, my love," he said, smirking when her knicker-less body came into view. Dropping to his knees, he draped one slender leg over his shoulder and leaned in to taste her.

It was all Cassie could do to stay upright as Stephen's clever tongue began to work its magic. Leaning against the wall for support, her fingers twisted in his hair as she cried out in bliss.

His tongue flicked and stroked over her sensitive, swollen nub, coaxing a cacophony of cries and moans to fall from her lips. His name sounded best when she called it out in pleasure, and as her hips bucked against his face, he moved his hand and slid two fingers into her tight passage.

"Stephen!" she gasped, the need inside her rapidly building to a crescendo. Cassie was fairly certain her boyfriend had not thought to cast a silencing charm before he'd begun, but all she could do was pray no one was nearby as her orgasm shook her and the sounds of her pleasure rang through the air. Her legs were beginning to tremble and lusty, glazed eyes turned down to meet the familiar smug expression on Stephen's face. "Bed now?" she queried hopefully. "I want the rest of you."

He pressed one last, soft kiss on her pale inner thigh before he rose from his knees, grasping her hips as he said, "This is why you came back, right? You missed my body."

"I missed all of you." Hooking her fingers in his trousers, Cassie pushed them down his long legs. She took him in her grasp, slender digits sliding over the stiff flesh firmly. "Some bits I just missed especially."

Stephen growled and reached down to grasp her wrist, pulling her hand away from his erection. "I hadn't noticed," he murmured huskily, sliding his knee between her thighs as he maneuvered them to his bed. Even though no one would believe it, he'd never actually bedded a woman in this room.

It was fitting that Cassie would be the first.

Hands pushing apart her thighs, he fit himself between her legs and thrust into her before she had a chance to react.

Her gown was bunched around her middle, Stephen still in his shirt and tie, and Cassie had never felt so good. Her body welcomed him with enthusiasm, her hips jerking in time with his. They just fit. Physically, but in everything else, too. Being with Stephen was like nothing else she'd ever experienced. He just made her whole.

A loud, unabashed groan fell from Stephen's lips as he sank into her warmth once more. It felt like coming home, being inside of her again. Her body fit against his with a certain type of perfection that he'd never experienced before. She was his.

Cassie's head fell back, her eyes closing as pleasure began to pool at her center. Bracing against the headboard, her breath came in grunts and gasps as they moved together. "Oh god," she cried, "don't stop."

He had no intentions of stopping, not until she'd fallen apart at his touch at least three more times. His hips snapped against hers efficiently, ploughing in and out of her soft body. He slipped one hand between them to pinch and pull at her clit, rubbing the hardened nub as her cries grew louder and louder.

Shocks like electricity coursed through her right to the tips of her toes and Cassie arched off the bed as she screamed her release. Stephen knew all the secrets of her body and played it like a fine instrument. Clutching at him, she slowly came down again, her chest heaving.

Stephen continued to thrust a few last, precious times before his body couldn't take it anymore. Her name was a ragged groan falling from his lips as he spilled into her, coming within her beautiful body.

Pressing soft kisses down the line of her lover's jaw, Cassie's lips curled and her arms tightened around him. "I missed you. I didn't realize just how used to seeing you most every day I'd become. The last week and a half was... I'm just happy to be home again."

"I'm glad you're home," he murmured, brushing a hand over her forehead. "It was a long two weeks with you gone."

"Poor baby," she cooed. "Next year you'll have to come with us. Assuming you haven't gotten sick of me by then."

"I could never be sick of you," he said, ducking down to press his lips against hers. Being here, with her, felt so right that he couldn't stop the words that fell from his lips next. "I love you."

Cassie's eyes locked on Stephen's as a crooked smile spread on her face. "Really?" she asked with a giggle before returning his kiss. He loved her. Hearing the words was... indescribable.

"Really."

"Good." She shifted slightly, his weight growing just a little uncomfortable as they lay on the small bed. "You're going to be missed if you don't get back to the party."

Stephen groaned and slid off her. "Bloody hell, I don't want to go back out there."

"Well," Cassie began thoughtfully, her fingers with the buttons of his shirt, "the rest of my family is still on holiday. No one would find you at my house. I could hide you."

"You could?" he murmured, tugging her on top of him. His blue eyes were dark with a wicked light as he traced his hands up and down her sides. "I suppose it's only fitting, having sex in both our childhood homes in one night."

She snickered, crinkling her nose. "Technically I live in the guest house, but it is on the family property." Eyes lighting with a mischievous twinkle as she slowly disentangled herself from his grasp, she added, "And who said we'd be having sex?"

Stephen raised a brow at her disbelievingly. "We're not going to have more sex?"

"I've caught you in my web already, you love me," Cassie replied cheekily. "I don't need to put out now."

"You don't need to, but you've been gone for two weeks," he whined. "That's a long time go without."

Laughing as she rose from the bed and did her best to straighten the dress that had been hastily bunched at her waist, Cassie corrected, "I came back early. It's only been a week and a half. I suppose I might be open to more sex, though, if you're very, very convincing."

Swinging his feet off the side of the bed, Stephen reached out and grasped her waist, drawing her back between his legs. "I can be convincing," he murmured, pressing an open-mouthed kiss at the base of her throat, "very convincing."

She couldn't help the sigh that escaped as his mouth moved over her skin. Cassie knew just how convincing Stephen could be, and she loved giving him the opportunity to remind her. "Well then, I suppose we ought to make our escape so you can get to the cajoling, hmm?"

"Oh, I plan on cajoling all night," he said with a wicked smirk, looking up at her. "You don't mind, do you?"

"I think I can handle that." She took his hand, pulling him to his feet and slipping an arm around his waist before pulling her wand. "We'd best get started, then," Cassie purred just before she Apparated them away.
