Sighing, Lisa snuggled deeper into Ernie's side. It was cold outside, but she was warm and comfortable in front of the fire, nestled with her husband on the sofa. Outside the window, it was snowing lightly, almost making her long for her little cottage on the moors. But it wasn't home anymore.
Home was here, with Ernie.
Ernie glanced down at the top of Lisa's head and smiled, pressing a kiss into her hair. "Happy?"
"The happiest I've ever been," she answered honestly, glancing up at him with a smile. "Ready for our first Christmas together?"
"More than ready." He didn't have her gift picked out yet, but only because he had no idea what to get for her.
"Me too," she said, leaning up to kiss him softly, "and I even have your presents picked out."
His hand moved to cup the back of her neck and he drew her closer, rubbing his nose over her cheek. "I don't suppose I'll be able to get you to tell me what it is?"
"Nope," she whispered in his ear. "I am an impenetrable fortress of secrets when it comes to Christmas presents. You'll just have to wait and find out."
"Impenetrable?" he asked, smirking. "Now honestly, how much fun is that for you?"
Lisa rolled her eyes. "Mental penetration, darling. I think you'd know if I was truly impenetrable."
"Oh, yes, that would be noticeable."
"Luckily for you," she said, crawling into his lap and nuzzling his check, "I'm not truly impenetrable. And luckily for me, of course."
His hands slid down to cup her hips and he kissed her forehead gently. "I think last night proved that."
"And the night before that," she replied with a smile.
"And this morning."
"The point has been well proved," Lisa said, nodding. Even as she smiled, though, her mind couldn't help but wander to the day before with Hannah. By Ernie's calm state of being, the other blonde obviously hadn't told him yet and while Lisa respected her wishes to be the one to tell him, she couldn't keep it in much longer. "Love?"
"Lisa?" he asked, giving into the urge to bite at the spot beneath her ear.
She sighed and hummed in pleasure. "When was the last time you spoke with Hannah?"
"Hannah?" he drew away with a frown. "I dunno, at the gala, I think."
Not the answer she'd been hoping for. "I think you should go see her," she said, nodding to reaffirm her statement.
"Okay. Why?" It wouldn't have been the first time he and Hannah had gone weeks without speaking.
"Um, because your wife has a feeling that she would like to talk to you?"
"You're going to have to do better than that, wife," he returned, running his fingers lightly over her sides. "You know something."
"No I don't," she said shiftily, shying away from his fingers.
"Was that answer meant to convince me?" he teased.
"Okay, maybe I do know something, but I was sworn to secrecy, so please go talk to her. Now," she added for emphasis.
"Sworn to secrecy, huh?" He began tickling in earnest. "I thought you weren't supposed to keep secrets from your husband."
Lisa shrieked and wiggled on his lap, trying her hardest to get away from his tickling fingers. "I know, but this is one of the few times that girl bond supersedes marital bonds!"
"Okay, fine," he sniffed. He pushed her gently from his lap and rose to his feet. "I'm leaving to go and talk to Hannah."
"Good. I love you." And just as soon as he was out of the flat, she was Flooing Justin.
"Love you too," he replied grumpily, Apparating out.
The second he disappeared, Lisa rose from the sofa and hurried over to the fireplace. Grabbing a handful of Floo powder, she tossed it in the grate and said, "Badger Loft!" Sticking her head into the green flames- something that even after sixteen years as a witch, she still wasn't used to- she called, "Justin?"
The blonde Auror looked up from his spot on the couch where he was holding a dozing Bridget as he worked on the endless amount of paperwork. "Kandy!" he called, quickly handing off the infant to elf before hurrying over to the fireplace. "Lisa, is everything alright? Ernie okay?"
"He's fine, we're all fine," she reassured him. Well, Hannah probably wasn't fine, but he'd find that out on his own. "I just sent Ernie to Hannah's, and I think you should go too."
"Alright." He gave her an odd look. "I'll take the bait. Any reason why you're purposefully engaging in subterfuge?"
She shook her head quickly. "Nope, just go, please." Before she spilled Hannah's secret by accident and sent the pregnant woman over the edge.
Justin nodded. "I'm going to assume there is some sort of reason, but Merlin, I hope nobody's dead. The paperwork is rather bothersome, you see. Have a good night, Lisa." Closing the connection, he quickly told Kandy about his plans before Disapparating. The flat was mostly quiet. "Han? Ernie?" Justin called out as he began to investigate. Both the reception room and kitchen proved empty. Moving towards his friend's bedroom, he found the door closed and the little furred thing she called a pet scratching and nearly yowling at the door. Justin reached down and gently moved it out of his way as he slipped through the door. The little animal proved too quick for him and shot through his legs, nearly causing him to stumble, bounding up and onto the bed.
Justin followed the cat's movements, brow furrowing as he found Hannah curled up in their friend's lap, crying her heart out. "Han? Ern?" He turned towards the other man, his face searching as he took off his shoes and took a seat on the other side of the bed. He reached out and put a warm hand on her back, rubbing circles soothingly.
Hearing and feeling Justin's hand just caused Hannah to burst out into louder and harsher sobs.
Seeing as he wasn't going to get any information out of their friend, the Auror turned towards the Obliviator. "Do you have any idea what's going on? She was fine the last time I saw her."
"Same here. I haven't a clue." She'd started crying the moment he'd hugged her, which made Ernie more than slightly uncomfortable. Blast. Well, that wasn't any help.
"Han?" Justin moved from his place on the bed to the other side, falling to his knees so he could look into her eyes. He would treat her like he would a hysterical victim. Calm the person down and get the story. "Hannah, take a deep breath. In and out. In and out."
Following Justin's gentle instructions, she took a gulps of air, letting out shaky breaths. "Good. Good." The Auror took her hand in his and began to stroke the back of it. "Can you tell us what's wrong? Or do you want to take a few more minutes?"
Watery eyes looked at him before tilting up to catch Ernie's. "A few minutes, please."
"Of course."
"Take as long as you need, Han," Ernie told her, combing his fingers through her hair.
A few minutes passed and Justin thought it was best to try again. "Do you want me to get you a glass of water while you gather your thoughts?" Justin was already standing.
Hannah nodded. Water in hand, the Auror moved back into the bedroom and handed it to the other blonde. Hannah took a few sips, wondering how she should go about this. Perhaps it was best to say everything at once like it was best to pull a plaster off quickly. "Ernie, Justin," she looked at each friend for a moment before continuing. "Ben and I had a fight. I'm pregnant," she said in one rush of breath.
Ernie blinked. "You had a fight and you're pregnant?"
"Well yes and no." She shrugged. "We fought because I'm pregnant." That wasn't the whole story. She knew it wasn't the whole story, it's just that she didn't know what the whole story was.
Justin scowled slightly. If he hadn't been Justin Finch-Fletchley the first words out of his mouth would have been What the fuck is this shit?, but considering he was brought up better than that, the words died on his lips. "It'll be alright, Han," he said instead, glancing up at Ernie, his eyes going up to Ernie's to let him know that no, everything was not alright.
Summary: With a little prodding from Lisa, Ernie and Justin find out about Hannah's pregnancy.
