Lisa pushed open the door to the large office suite with a smile on her face. She'd been hustling around all morning, mostly at the Ministry as she filled out the appropriate paperwork to have her name and wizarding identification changed. She'd never particularly enjoyed filling out forms upon forms, but this time? It was worth it.
After a quick stop by Ernie's office for a midday snog, Lisa had one last stop before she was set to meet Padma for tea. She hadn't heard from her other best friend in over a week; Padma hadn't responded to her owl, which was highly unusual. Even if it was only a two word response, she always heard back.
"Good afternoon, Dominique," she greeted the dark haired
woman who sat behind the front desk, busy with what looked to be her employer's personal planner. "Is he in?"
Dominique glanced up from her work and gave Lisa a small, half-smile. "Un moment," she said as she rose and crossed to the door behind her desk, knocking softly on the rich mahogany.
"Enter," Julian said without looking up from his ledgers.
She poked her head in. "Lisa is 'ere to see you."
Julian wracked his brain. Lisa... who was Lisa? He couldn't remember any of his recent partners being named Lisa. Why was a woman named Lisa there to see him?
At his confused expression, Dominique rolled her eyes. "Lisa Turpin," she clarified. "She 'as only worked for you for five years."
"Ah." Julian knew that. He just hadn't thought about her. "Yes. Send her in."
Dominique turned her attention back to the blonde milling about the outer office. "You may go in now."
"Thank you," Lisa said brightly as she brushed past the other woman and into Julian's massive, luxurious office.
"Lisa," Julian greeted, standing and taking her hand to brush a kiss over the back of it. "You're looking well as ever. I trust your spontaneous holiday afforded you some time to yourself?"
"I'm sorry about the sudden owl," she apologized as she took a seat opposite him, "it was a very much spur of the moment decision. But yes, Ernie and I enjoyed ourselves greatly, thank you for asking."
"And how is your fiancé doing?" Julian had, of course, run discreet checks on his employee's betrothed, checking the man's financial status, family history, current occupation, and past indiscretions. The man's background was clean as a whistle. Not even the smallest fine or infraction. Pity.
"Well, he isn't my fiancé anymore," Lisa replied, her grin growing with each passing moment. "We got married in Tahiti last week."
Julian's eyebrows rose at the news. "Congratulations, mia bionda," he said, genuinely happy for his employee and one-time lover. "But I take it that's not why you've stopped by my office."
She sighed and glanced down at her hands. Julian had an uncanny ability to read people, which unnerved her to no end. "No, it isn't." She reached into her purse and handed Julian a sheet of paper. "I can't keep the hours I currently work here. I've enjoyed the experience at Incubus Dreams, but I want to spend more time with my husband. Please consider this my two week's notice."
He read the paper quickly, which stated nothing more than what Lisa had just said. Employees came and employees went, of course, but Lisa had been a fixture at the nightclub since he'd first invested over five years ago. And, of course, he'd never forget the one night they'd surrendered to their desires and spent the night in each other's arms. Hands scoured and teeth and lips grazed skin as their bodies had met over and over again throughout the course of the night. It'd only been a night, but it had been a memorable one.
"Well," he said, "we'll certainly miss you. You've been a valuable member of our family and it will be hard to replace you."
"Thank you," she said, giving him a smile, "but everything comes to an end, doesn't it?"
"It does," he agreed. He reached into a drawer and pulled out a folder, withdrawing a slip from inside. After scribbling down some numbers and signing it with a flourish, he handed it to her. "Consider this both a thank you for years of service, and a belated wedding gift."
Lisa flushed as she read the bank note, her jaw dropping at the amount of zeros her former employer had written. "Julian, I... this is too much."
"Not at all," he said, and his tone afforded no room for argument. "You've earned it after years of working the late shift. Besides, if nothing else, you can spend it on lots of lingerie to entice your new husband. If I recall correctly- and I know I do- you look particularly appetizing in black silk framed with the barest hint of lace."
She raised a brow at him. "Let's not stroll down memory lane," she said dryly. "I'd hate for my husband to be sent to Azkaban for dismembering you."
Julian laughed. "Oh Lisa, I will miss you. Do stop by and see us again sometime."
"I will," she said as she tucked the bank note into her handbag and rose, giving the dark man a long, searching look. "Good bye, Julian."
"Ciao,bella."
