Day One

We got to the airport this morning with plenty of time to spare. Grabbed coffee and a quick breakfast and headed to our gate.

We flew out of Providence and had a stop in Chicago. I’m not a big fan of flying. It’s noisy and cramped and my ears hurt… but the flight to Chicago was pretty smooth. We had about an hour layover before leaving for San Diego. The four hour flight went by pretty quickly.  We got to watch Happy Feet, which was cute. Again the flight was pretty smooth and very clear, so we had some amazing views.  Flying over the mountains was just breathtaking!

We got in on time, had no trouble getting our bags, and headed out to the rental car place. Once at the rental car place, my parents went inside to pick up the car, Mich and I dug into our suitcases to pull out sandals and put away the heavy sweatshirts. Yay! Sunny and 70.

Then we headed for a drive. We took a drive by the water and down by the Hotel Del Coronado. Wow!  Once it was 3pm, we headed to our hotel to check in.

Then my brother drove down from Dana Point to come out to dinner with us. We took a drive first and again drove by the water, this time driving through La Jolla.  Very pretty.

We finally settled on a seafood place right on the water. It was kinda meh food-wise but it was nice to have dinner as a family, something we haven’t been able to do in a really long time. I hadn’t even seen my brother since his graduation in May.

After dinner we headed back to the hotel, where my dad instantly crashed and my mom started watching the grease reality show… (I can’t stand grease!)  As it was only 7 in San Diego time, Mich and I decided to head out for a walk. We braved the rather scary and confusing crosswalks and wandered through a couple plazas of shops and restaurants.  Mich and I finally decided to head into a Jack in the Box for milkshakes… just to be able to try a different fast food place than we have around home. Then we headed back to the hotel.

I know I should be sleepier than I am… I’ve been up since 3am. I am sitting in the hotel bed, lights out, listening to everyone else sleep.

Tomorrow we get up early and head to Sea World.
