Spooky

First of all, reason #287 that I love working in DC -- I can take a lunchtime walk and see the cherry blossoms.  (They're at their peak today, and absolutely gorgeous.)  I can even handle the hordes of tourists, and yes, pity them a little -- after all, they're spending hundreds of dollars to be shuttled hither and yon like a bunch of cattle, just to see the beauty that I take for granted every day.  And Washington is a beautiful city, particularly when the pink and white of the cherry blossoms and magnolias are contrasted with the pale green of the just-budding trees, the darker green of the grass, and the white marble monuments.

All of which brings me to the spooky part -- just as I was starting to cross between the Lincoln Memorial and the reflecting pool, with the Mall stretched out before me in all its glory, what should start playing on my iPod (on random) but The Corsairs' "America The Beautiful."  Talk about a coincidence that stops you in your tracks, takes your breath away and sends chills up and down your spine . . . I couldn't do anything but stand there with tears streaming down my face.

loving dc
