top five lists

From a meme I did a few weeks ago, here are the requested lists. Have felt absolutely horrid lately. Rob passed his sinus infection to me, and as usual when I'm really sick, I've pulled myself into a little KOTOR-playing antisocial hole. BTW, thank you, morningwind for getting me so addicted to 24 that I decided I didn't feel like waiting for Netflix and went ( Read more... )

I keep meaning to write to you and say "now I understand!!" I finally figured out how to burn a CD (we had a bad experience with a CD burner years ago that we could never get to work, so I've semi-consciously shied away from the things, not realizing that they've made it easy nowadays *feels dumb*) and I downloaded several of the songs I gave a thumbs-up to on Pandora.

I have: C.R.E.A.M. by Wu Tang Clan
New York State of Mind by Nas
Multiply by Xzibit & Nate Dogg
Diamonds From Sierra Leone by Kanye West
The Corner by Common

and, from my office-painting marathons, Dem Boyz by Boyz in Da Hood (featuring Young Jeezy)

Now I get what everyone is saying about the difference between good rap and bad rap, hearing them in succession like that. Jeezy's really weak, and it's a whole lot easier to pick out what separates the good MCs. Pandora has also thrown some Eminem at me, and I can definitely see his talent, but his voice still grates. Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre are *really* growing on me, though! I think I'll buy "The Chronic" and "Illmatic" when I have some free spending money.

Anyway, thanks so much for schooling me! And feel free to keep the recommendations coming, I'll add them to Pandora and hope they play them. :)

(I really, really need to make a rap icon...)

You have GOT to get "The Chronic" - it's a masterpiece. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.00.

Xzibit is tight, but Nate Dogg is what makes a lot of these jams worthwhile. You like "Regulate" by Warren G, right? Nate Dogg's what makes that hot. Also, give a listen to Eminem and Nate Dogg's "Shake That" - and make sure you get the explicit version. I will be the first to admit that Em's voice in this song sort of sounds like a dental drill, but Nate Dogg more than makes up for it. :)

My husband, who is slowly getting his feet wet in the hip hop world, likes "Hate It or Love It (G Unit Remix)" by 50 Cent and his crew. He likes the beat a lot.

Have you heard "The Whistle Song"?
