Fox Noise on the Good Ship Lollipop

melannen over on Dreamwidth has cooked up what has to be the world's most bizarre crossover art: MSNBC pundits in Star Trek, with Keith Olbermann, Capt. Rachel Maddow, and a couple of others flying around on the USS Bill of Rights (sounds like a ship straight out of Andromeda, of the same class as the Continuation of Politics and Salient Debate-- yes, ( Read more... )

So... would you be willing to un-lock this post, or at least willing to let me re-post the relevant bits with credit to you, for purposes of shared universe? fakenews_fanfic has just posted a shared universes challenge for summer, and I'd love to see if I can find someone else there who loves the idea of the Enhanced Interrogation and the folks on it, and send them your way.

I don't know what to recommend about Pundit fandom beyond that, though. There are plenty of people who don't follow all the characters - I've only managed to sit through a few bits of Cooper's show, because it annoys me; I just like the *idea* of him as played out in fic and biography. And a lot of the Jon & Stephen people aren't really into Keith & Rachel except in fic, and vice versa, and nobody really cares how closely you follow canon, because watching all the shows every night would leave you no time to write. It still tends to be really, really political, though. (And most of the fic is still Jon/Stephen fic, and most of it is just plain bad, or at least too drenched in fanon for me to bother with.)

Hmm. Sure, go for it. I suspect the channel will alienate most people on that comm, though. Still, if someone wants to play with it, that would be awesome.

Interesting comm, btw, I joined and have been reading some of the fic (including one with the characters as zoo animals that made me laugh my ass off because they made Hannity and O'Reilly rhinos. While being completely unspoiled for the existence of RINO as an insult. Ha!). I'm still trying to figure out all the fanon. It's a lot different than what I did back in 2003-2004ish, even when I wrote crack, I tried to make it as canon-compliant as I could. This looks a *lot* more experimental. Which could be a lot of fun, if I could wrap my head around it (Colbert breaks my brain, though).

I don't mind that it's political! I agree with those people way more than I disagree with them, so it's all good. I'm watching Rachel right now, inspired by all the fic goodness. Are there any specific fics you'd recommend?

There is a ton of fanon in the fandom, but it's also a fandom that's pretty willing to just go with whatever characterization you feel like using. ...and, yeah, plenty of crack. "Canon" is different in an RPS fandom anyway.

And Colbert breaks *everybody's* brain.

Fic: For the MSNBC axis, sarken, bessemerprocess, and peapods42 are reliably good. My favorite writer on the Jon & Stephen end is reseda_ptah (especially the liberalvers and the epic Doctor Who crossover. (ptah writes almost entirely fictional!Stephen; I mostly only read real!Jon & Stephen when they're hanging out with Keith & Rachel, but I know there are some good writers who do just them.)
