Obligatory Trip Post - Denver (Wicked)

May 21, 2007 16:28

Wheeeeee! Got home yesterday from another whirlwind road trip - this time to go and see Wicked for my birthday present. 'Twas muchos amazing. I think I'll do the whole bullet thing again this time - only with pictures!

THURSDAY

- Spent way too much time procrastinating packing/making mix cds. Watched the Ugly Betty finale with my sister and Jenni, squeed at Kristin Chenoweth and gasped at the ending. Sarah came over late in the evening and she helped me pack while we ran around to random stores trying to get everything we needed. Got distracted in the end and ended up making mix cds until midnight. Damn.

FRIDAY

- Mom wanted to be on the road at 4 AM, luckily that idea got shot down. Got dragged out of bed at 6 AM, said a prayer and got on the road around 6:30-ish.

- I don't remember much of the first half of the first half of the trip. We got up too late to see the sunrise. Mom decided to go south and then north to get to I-80, which wasted a lot of time because we got stuck in rush hour traffic. Darn. We must have listened to several CDs and stuff, but I don't remember.

- "Look, Sarah! A plateau!"

- Somewhere in Wyoming, it is announced that it's my turn to drive. I manage not to kill us, though there was a close call or two. Stupid semis and their need to merge into MY LANE while I AM DRIVING IN IT THANK YOU. I have to drive through miles and miles of construction and Mum tells me that no, I am not allowed to see how many of the big orange cones I can take out. We listen to John Bytheway's "Squeaky Clean Comedy" CD that made me laugh so hard I nearly drove off the road. I have nothing against some shamelessly dirty comedy routines, but it's nice to be able to laugh my head off at something and not worry about whether or not it's offensive to other people. Sarah slept through this, though she said she woke up to my mad cackling every so often. Sorry, love.

- We stopped in Laramie or some place in Wyoming for lunch and end up eating at some diner connected to a hotel. It had vinyl tablecloths and psychedelic cowboy pictures on the walls. Mom taught us what "Rocky Mountain Oysters" are. Fried bull testicles. O.o ...ew. Just...ew.

- Mom still does not trust me on the road for extended periods of time, so she takes the wheel again and ends up driving all the way to Denver. Sarah and I try to watch Clue on her little DVD player, but I haven't had a nap yet and I fall asleep on her shoulder right after the cook lady was murdered. Oops.

- After hours and hours of driving, we finally get to Denver! YAY! We're all more than a little stir-crazy and ready to get out of the car. We try to follow the directions that Mom printed out from the Marriott website, but they are vague and confusing. Downtown Denver streets only run one-way, by the way. To turn left, you have to wait until you find a left-bound street. Usually they're every other street, but sometimes there's pedestrian malls and convention centers in the way so it takes fricking forever to find the street you need! The map we had was very blurry and missing every street but the really major ones (sorry to Mom for accidentally cutting Denver off of the good map when I was cutting out unique paper for cards during the Vegas trip), so we ended up turning a good three streets too early in an attempt to find our hotel. This lead to much chaos and wandering around and screaming at each other (all friendly screaming!) in our insanity. Eventually we try coming at it a different direction and find the hotel.

- We are very impressed by the luxury of the hotel and feel bad for coming into the super-fancy lobby in our pajamas and mussed hair. But I figure that it's their job to serve us, no matter how low-class we appear. So I don't mind as much. But I am very impressed by the luxury. Aunt Kamala works for Marriott, and she got us an amazing deal at the super-fancy Marriott right downtown. A $1200/night suite with four double beds became $50/night. O.o

gtg to dinner now. will finish later.
