For my green geekette side

(And the side of me that worries about having electrical items to close to my already damaged brain.)

I want these cute little things--water-powered clocks. I like the first one's aesthetics, the second one's functions (gained by rotating the clock--how clever).

Yes, yes, yes! (Although I'm on Antabuse and not supposed to drink the stuff. Gah. I'm hoping that if I don't let it go too long, it'll be alcohol-free--or at least enough that I'm okay.) Do you want me to swap a mason jar (with a plastic lid) with you? Quart-sized? And I'll bring back your lovely ginger beer bottle!

Can you tell me again who you recommended to study with when learning about bees?

Have you dabbled in cheesemaking yet? I don't recall. I'm really itching to sign up for a cheesemaking workshop at that cheesemaking outfit in Ashfield. The workshops fill up so fast, but they're $150, so I'm a little slow to decide on them (so slow that I miss out).

Did you get all your strawberries put up? I really need to go get some for freezing. I make a smoothie with either them or blueberries almost every morning. Yum. The frozen (organic) fruits are so expensive. I'm too afraid to eat non-organic strawberries, especially non-local ones, as they are supposed to be one of the most heavily pesticided produce items out there.

Did you once comment that you get or have access to goats' milk? If so, is it from someone who might be willing to sell some to me?

I'm tossing about the idea of moving into the upstairs apartment in the house of a friend of mine (in Belchertown). She has a huge yard. I'm trying to pre-convince her that she needs a few chickens. She so far seems to be very opposed to the idea.

I'm blabbering.

I have done a little cheesemaking, and I'd like to do some this summer! I have both the hard cheese kit and the mozzarella kit from the Ashfield place, but I haven't taken any of their classes. The kits are nice, but if I was going to be a serious cheesemaker I'd want to get better molds (and several of them) and a better gadget for putting pressure on the cheese - maybe even a real cheese press. In the past I've rigged up weights, but because the cheese mold tapers it's hard to get good, even pressure on it and I end up with slightly lopsided cheeses. (They still taste good, though!)

My aunt and uncle have goats (and llamas, and chickens, and geese, and dogs and cats) in Granby, so I was thinking of asking if they had any extra milk that I could have. I don't know that they would sell it, but I can ask.

We did get all of our strawberries put up (phew!) except for one quart that's earmarked for a pie and one that I brought in for my students.

I'm a little skeezed out by pesticided strawberries too, but I still pick them at Lakeside. I do get some organic ones through our summer CSA. (Those are the ones we feed to our parrots, since they're so sensitive to chemicals. Yeah, we're wacky pet people.)
