some things:
1. i'm so-so veryvery excited to see my cousins tonight. my mom's family is awesome; they are full of strength. we're going over there tonight so we can sit on the floor and eat spaghetti and tomato sauce off of paper plates and laugh and reminisce.
2. on a related note, my grandmother, my aunt, my mom and i went out for dinner on thursday night. my grandmother, who is 90, is extremely healthy for someone her age, in spite of the fact that her short-term memory is not-so-hot and she sometimes says kind of wacky things. case in point:
my mom (snarkily, laughing): mom, why did you put your skillet in the oven?
grandma: if the skillet wasn't in the oven, how do you think you got here?
yeah. what?! (was she thinking "bun in the oven"? the world will never know.)
3. i cut my hair. my bangs are shorter, and so is the length. i have very swingy layers that i love running my fingers through. it's not markedly-different from the style i've had for the past eight months or so, but it feels wonderful. and that, i think, is the point.
4. on a related "beauty"-front: thursday at the magazine, someone from nordstrom or neiman-marcus (i forget which) sent over a bunch of free samples for the staff, including two bottles of $600 skin-cream and a ton of makeup. i was gifted with a sparkly-pink armani lipgloss--$26 that i probably wouldn't have ever spent on myself. oh, the perks of working for a magazine called orlando leisure ...! (yes, i'm shallow and superficial. but in-spite-of my penchant for lipgloss and my affinity for too-expensive haircuts, i still think (hope) i'm an interesting person.)
5. shun and i are contemplating a trip to atlanta sometime soon. christina and i are talking paris, when she finishes her m.a. i'm going to pennsylvania sometime very-soon, to see bethany, susan, and my grandparents, and new york city with cristin is still a possibility. the next fifty-two weeks are going to be something special. i feel: on the brink.
6. off to change out of my stupid-stupid uniform, put on normal clothes, and then head over to my aunt's to see matthew, sarah, and ocean (or, as my cousin katie calls him, "little puddle.")
with heart,
me.
