So this weekend, we headed to California for what I like to call "pretending to be 17 again". We went to Halloween Horror Nights, which Mike has been talking about for 6 years or so, then went to Magic Mountain to indulge our need for danger (and vomit).
HHN was awesome. I love all things gruesome and scary, and didn't even mind having chainsaws within inches of my legs. I liked when the pigmen snorted in my ear, and when The Strangers stood watching us for what seemed like an eternity. The night ended with a trip to Popcornopolis for Rocky Road popcorn and caramel apples.
The next morning, we headed to Magic Mountain. Because we were some of the first people in the park, and didn't immediately head to the brand new rides, we were able to ride 5 roller coasters in one hour, with no waiting in line! It was so awesome! For most of the rides, we were the only people in the train, which was slightly terrifying, but still awesome. The day was overcast and cool, and eventually it started to sprinkle on us! Rain!
After the 3rd or 4th coaster, I started feeling sick. I was so upset, because I was the one who wanted to go to Magic Mountain, the one who loves riding roller coasters, and here I am the one who has to take a Rolaids to feel better! It was sad, and a small reminder that I'm getting old, but no one seemed to be upset.
We decided we had to ride Tatsu before we left. I didn't know if I could do it, but forced myself. It looked so scary. You get all buckled in to a seat that reminded me of a baby carseat. Then the seat tips forward so that your back is on the track, hanging, and you are face down. It immediately starts with an ascent up the hill, with absolutely nothing underneath you. No track, no car, nothing. It was so high. I could just imagine the harness releasing for some reason, and us falling onto the ground below. I had to close my eyes a couple of times, and breathe deep.
The ride began and it was amazing and terrifying all at once. I'm so glad I did it, and didn't let a little upset stomach or fear keep me from doing it.
We left Magic Mountain after getting our fill of the coasters, and headed back to the hotel. We all took a nap, then decided to head to the Santa Monica pier. It was nice and cool, and I always love being by the ocean. We had some ice cream, then back to the hotel. The next morning we headed home, and today just recovered.
It was really great to get out of town and do something totally ridiculous. We've decided to try and make it a tradition to go each year. Next year, I'll remember to bring a bunch of rolaids...
