Europe Part 1: LONDON

Jul 17, 2005 15:57

Since everyone has been asking to see pictures and stuff from Europe, I have decided to do a whole bunch of posts to show pictures and to tell everyone what I did the last few weeks. Since I'm not very computer savvy and it takes me fifty-million years to upload pics online, I will break down my trip into parts, most likely one post for each country I visited. Thus, my first post will be on London, England.

After being planes for over 15 hours, we finally landed in Heathrow on Thursday morning (June 22). We took a bus through London to our "hotel" which was actually dorms at the University of London: Queen Mary. We then took the Underground or "The Tube" to Trafalgar Square where we had a mini tour and then some freetime nearby. We then hiked it over to a restaurant called Bar Room Bar, BRB for short. We had some thin but yummy pizza then headed back to the dorms where we all crashed.

The next day, we had a bus tour where we saw various tourist sites, including a stop at St. Paul's Cathedral. We drove past Big Ben and Westminster Abbey, then stopped to watch the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace. Then, we walked up to Piccadilly Circus where we had 6 hours of free time (WAY too much) to go shopping etc. The next morning we left on the Eurostar for Paris.

Trafalgar Square with an immense statue of some dead British guy.

A church on Trafalgar Square which is one of the oldest in London.

A square close by Trafalgar where we had some free time and also where a major part of My Fair Lady was filmed.

Paul, Anna, and Megan at BRB.

Our group of seniors nicknamed "Paul's Angels."

St. Paul's Cathedral, which is one of the largest churches in the world.

Big Ben as seen as we whizzed by in a bus.

Westminster Abbey also seen as we whizzed by in a bus.

The changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. Hands down my favorite part of London.

Buckingham Palace, which is absolutely beautiful. If you look closely you can see the Queen's flag flying on top, showing that the Queen was home.

Everyone at Buckingham Palace... except I look hideous becuase I was watching whoever Melissa was passing her camera to.

The day time stood still: We spent our 6 hours of free time in Picadilly Circus, which is in the background of this picture. You can also see all of the really cool double decker buses here.

Obligatory picture of "The Tube."

As many of our tour guides said: Japanese tourist approved photo op.

Coming soon: PARIS!
