So I think I have decided where I am going to go to college. And it's funny because it was really the last place I thought I would end up originally. But now that I have applied and visited everywhere, I realize that it really is the best place for me. And that place is Oregon State.
I went and visited the department head of Biochemistry and Biophysics yesterday because he sent me a letter and called me congratulating me on being accepted into the major. And I was impressed.
First off, he is about the coolest guy ever. He looks like a mad scientist - actually now that I think of it, like Albert Einstein. He has the same hair... bald on top and sticking out on the sides... except no moustache. And he is so cool. What really impressed me was the personal attention he seemed to have to all his students. He is the advisor, so he sits down with everyone and talks about their schedule, etc. And he told me that he was concerned mostly with students being challenged, but not being so challenged that they end up 2.2 GPA. He said that he sits down with students if they are struggling or if they need more challenge, and that is awesome that he gives such personal attention.
He then gave my mom and I a tour of all the labs. He was explaining to us about how the majority of students in the major have paid internships in the labs where they gain experience. That's something Seattle Pacific doesn't have - research. So the research really excited me, along with the fact that it is paid... because I definitely need money for college.
Overall he was so awesome and nice, and I was just totally impressed, and I love the campus and am so excited to go there! Plus I got the Presidental Scholarship, which is money. And although I didn't get anymore FinAid from OSU, they gave me loans to cover the remaining fees, which is very very good. SPU left me with about $20000 that I had to come up with on my own - they didn't even give me good loans!
The only things I am concerned about now are getting into the Honors College (so that the classes are smaller), the huge campus, and the lack of a Christian campus. But there are still lots of activities I can get into.
Anyways, that's my little college update for the day!
