so, here's the thing about the past few days.
they've rocked. so. hard.
still coming down off of my RENT high, the steady flow of fun/awesome things did not ebb for me from about thursday night until...well, until about now. not that i'm in a bad mood or anything like that, the general excitement has just died down.
friday:
sus and i went to see the purdue glee club show! i tease adam about it a lot, but they are actually really, really good. they are also like the army of choir, it's pretty amusing. but that's not the point. the point is that they sang the song l-o-v-e (l is for the way you look at me, o is for the only one i see...), during which every member of the glee club runs down offstage and picks someone (usually an old lady) to serenade.
i was sitting on the aisle in the second row, and i figured everyone would just run past me. but, lo and behold, as i was watching them all run down the aisles, i suddenly felt someone grab my hand. i looked down, and there he was. the most beautiful boy in the whole choir, down on one knee, holding my hand and staring straight into my face. what happened next may be the most awkward thing i have ever experienced.
glee boy: hi i'm *name withheld...to protect me...although i do remember it*. what's your name?
me: *choking noise, trying to smile* hi, i'm laurel.
glee boy: it's nice to meet you laurel...are you a student here at uk?
me: *hyperventilating and goofy grin* yep.
glee boy: cool, what's your major?
me: *more of the dumb goofy grin* psychology
glee boy: oh, awesome. well is this your first time at a purdue glee club show?
me: *still looking dumb* yeah, but do you know adam n-
glee boy: *interrupting my question because they were starting their song* l is for the way you look at meeee...
he proceeded to grab my other hand and not break eye contact once throughout the entire song. i proceeded to giggle, choke, hyperventilate, look around awkwardly, and basically just be dumb. i could see sus dying laughing out of the corner of my eye. after the song was over, he stood up, said it was great to meet me, gave me a hug, and freaking kissed me on the cheek.
yeah.
in fran's inspired words after i later related the story to her: "it's the christian version of getting some! you GOT SOME!"
that i did. i pretty much just could not handle the excitement/awkwardness combination, and my arms were all red for the entire rest of the night (yeah i blush in my arms, that a problem?).
then i got to talk to adam afterwards, which was also great since i never get to see him. and then he gave me his carnation, which was really sweet.
adam, if you are reading this:
a) thank you again for the flower :)
b) this story does not get related to any of the other glee boys. ever.
so that was my friday. i'd say it was a winner.
saturday:
woke up at 7 to go volunteer at the nile, which is a home for pregnant women and new mothers who have fallen into bad situations. it was really cool to meet the moms and babies, and the two women that own the house and run the program all by themselves.
took a nap...first one i've take in a looooong time. it was great.
tawnie's grandma k came and cooked us dinner! and not just any dinner...pans full of homemade fried chicken, homemade mashed potatoes, homemade gravy, greenbeans, rolls, brownies, peppermint ice cream, and pumpkin rolls. it was the most amazing meal i've ever had. she also got us each a little angel. yeah, she was pretty precious. she's definitely in my top 5 favorite grandmas now.
317 was fun, and of course we ate more food. yep, always a good time.
so my saturday...another winner.
sunday:
woke up early, drove home, and made it in time for my mima's birthday lunch. the food was good, my family misbehaved as usual, and i got to see my mom, which was exciting.
my mom took me shopping and i got candles, a curtain for my closet here, and 4 new christmas mugs! ($.60 at walmart, heck yes.)
went to hang out with kaitlin, mike and tom...after about 37 hours of deliberation over what movie to watch, we picked hercules, of course.
sunday...yet another winner.
monday:
woke up early, went to my doctor's appt, and drove back to lex with kaitlin in tow. it took us forever to get back, because it was raining, the ramp to i-64 E was closed, and we stopped to get chocolate. but we did get back eventually, and it was good. we drove around and went to sqecial, third street stuff, and bangkok house for thai food. then shift! everyone thought kaitlin was a freshman, it was amusing. aaaaand then we watched signs, and stayed up way too late talking (830 came reallllllly early, lol).
you guessed it...winner.
today:
went to class, came back and went to starbucks and chik-fil-a for lunch w/ kaitlin, back to class, and then to jonk!
have i ever mentioned how much i freaking LOVE JONK? it is the best place of all time. for those that are unfamiliar with it, it is the best vintage store i have ever been in - it has clothes, hats, jewelry, bags, books, records, 8-tracks, shoes, furniture, art, and other assorted knick-knacks (aka pirateship tv lamps, ashtrays, rotary phones, etc.) i got a pink knitted hat there for $4, and it owns your face...i've been wearing it all day. i also got a pitiful hula girl with very little hair and a faux fur skirt for $1 (she's going on my dashboard). i was so excited.
then we went back to third street, and we had a caramel brownie (amazing). i bought a mexican soda, which i spent the entire time trying to get open, to no avail. i had to wait until we got home and have clay open it. it was sort of sad.
then kaitlin left to go back to indy, which made me very sad. but she got home safely, which is good, and i will see her at thanksgiving maybe, which is also good.
we had community day in bible study, so really we just watched save the last dance, haha. after that, we went to the first veritas forum, which was on "Jesus and islam: the conflicting truth claims that divide christians and muslims." the panel was made up of a catholic bishop, a protestant philosophy professor, and an eastern orthodox philosophy professor, and it was very interesting. people from all kinds of different backgrounds and belief systems came to ask questions. i can't wait for the next one.
tuesday...win.
so yeah, the past few days have been excellent...i think the streak is ending, lol, but it was good while it lasted!
oh also...hanna came down to my room today so we could coordinate schedules (we're both taking art studio 102 and anthropology 160 together next semester), and i was telling her about all of the art classes i need for louisville's art therapy program...1 drawing, 1 painting, 1 clay, and 2 other studio courses. well, it turns out that after all of that, i'd only need one more art class and 2 art professions classes (each only 1 hour) to minor...so looks like i'm minoring in fine arts! woohoo!
alright, i seriously have to go to bed. right. now.
i don't want to take off my pink hat though...
hmmm.
