Alexander Mc queen committed suicide . It was a shock . It wasn't a surprise . Fashion = superficial ? No . For unconventional designers some of it comes from deep feelings , dark sides of your soul , traumas . Fashion is also one of the toughest job in the world , no matter at which level.I really think you have to be a bit masochistic to choose

It is incredibly sad... If fashion can break someone like him... what hope is there for the rest of us?

We can't know if it is because of his job. He committed suicide at the eve if his mother funeral.Maybe his job ( at least creating , i am not sure that the pressure he had on his shoulders was good ! ) helped him to live longer and he had no more strengh to fight his ' interior darkness '. What is sure is that artists / designers that successfull thinking outside of the box and daring to be different are extremly rare. It is defintly a massive loss for fashion ( and well for his friends , family ect obvisouly ! )
This is why though we have to kee fighting , even at our tinny level because there is no hoe at all otherwise.
